I remember seeing this in school. I could have sworn that I read it too, but I didn't remember anything that happened. However I loved this story and this makes me want to read other books of Jerry Spinelli's. Here are some of my favorite quotes.

"Never again to return to the house of two toasters. Never again to return to school."

"For the life of him, he couldn’t figure why these East Enders called themselves black. He kept looking and looking, and the colors he found were gingersnap and light fudge and dark fudge and acorn and butter rum and cinnamon and burnt orange. But never licorice, which, to him, was real black."

"Yeah, you’re bad all right, Mars Bar. You’re more than bad. You’re good."

OMG!!! This was so good!!! I love this series so much!! I read like half of the first book and 30% of this in a single sitting and I am loving this series!!!

"I will pick Darling over my own wings because with her I am already flying. She is mine and I am hers."

"I get it, he’s pissed he lost his shadow— again— but does he have to waste precious amounts of rum while expressing his vexation? I think not."

This reminded me of Jack Sparrow and I made a note for it: "Why is the rum gone? Why is the rum always gone?!"

"“I thought I was too. But come on, brother. Dying would be an awfully big adventure.”"

That quote just makes me giggle. 😂😂😂

This one was actually super funny and so cute!!!! The last two I read didn't hold up against the first two I read from this series, so I've been nervous about reading the last two books. But I'm glad I read this one! As always, some of my favorite quotes.

"Bree looks like a nineties supermodel with her wet hair scraped back. I’m in my sea otter era."

"“May I have his full name and date of birth?” Leo asks sweetly. “Social security, too, if possible? I need to commit a murder, please.”"

"“Mr. Husband,” Bree says to him with supreme satisfaction, “I can’t tell you how long we’ve been waiting for you to show up.”"

I read this in a single sitting and I loved it a lot! This is about a lover who loves their significant other more than they ever loved them. There are a couple of people for me that this fits for, but I've learned to let them go. I think about them from time to time though.

"i used to fight so hard, and with everything in me, to hold onto you... to hold onto us. now i'm fighting with everything in me to let go of you, and to let go... of us"

"and if i'm honest, i don't believe you ever truly loved me you just got a little lonely at night, and you loved that i loved you"

"because you never think that the last time is the last time you think there will be more you think you have forever, but you don't"

The last quote is here as one of my favorites because it can go for anyone, not just a lover.

This one was okay. It kept losing my interest and it took me forever to finish, but it had a good message behind it.

It seemed quite poetic that I start and end this month with a poetry book. This one was okay. Not my favorite poetry book that I've read, but it was definitely still a good one. I loved the message. It is usually the poetry books that I relate to the most that are my favorites. While I can relate to her father leaving and abandoning her, my mother was amazing! I still enjoyed reading about her healing process though. Here are my favorite quotes.

"As a child, I was told to cry for help. Cry for help when you feel unsafe. Cry for help when you feel scared. Cry for help when you feel weak. Cry for help when you feel defenceless. As a child, I cried for help. And in return, I was told to stop crying. A child’s cry is deafened when it’s a cry against their family."

"The shadows of my childhood dance into my adulthood. They appear when I raise my voice out of anger. They appear when I hide from moments of uncertainty. They appear when I sit in moments of sadness. They appear when I hold onto meaningless grudges. They appear when I push away supportive hands. They appear when I mirror the people I spent my childhood fearing I’d turn into."
