Mc was really whiny and I just couldn't relate, root, or be intrigued by him 

I just felt like half way through the book you have to at least care about some thing in this book? like one would expect to have something to root for. and by all means it doesnt have to be good, it can be bad but interesting but it was just,,,, meandering 

It was just too cliched. the women in the story where few and when they were there they were very bound by stereotypes while the story was mostly men fighting with swords.
