This collection of short stories was exceptional. I dont know when last i’ve read something like this, probably never. Some of the stories were so bizarre, i had to reread several times to try and decipher what i read. She touched on some real serious issues in these short stories and i love the way it was delivered. There are few stories that didnt appeal to me but i loved quite a few.
My favorites include, but not limited to:
President Daisy
And You Know This
Art, For Fuck’s Sake
Phonecall to a London Rape Crisis Centre
Drag
Love Silk Food

This is my first Edwidge Danticat book and i feel like i've been missing out. This book makes me want to do a deep dive into the history of Haiti. My memory needs refreshing.
This book features a collection of short stories that captures the traumas and struggles of Hatian life.
That first story though!! Children of the sea, i think this one is gonna stick with me for a while :(

4.5 stars rounded down. I feel like everyone should read this book.
Once known only as Emily Doe, Chanel Miller was the sexual assault victim of Brock Turner until her victim impact statement went viral. In this memoir Chanel reclaims her identity, challenges the culture of victim blaming and sheds light on the effects of sexual assault.
Its a raw, powerful and insightful book.

I absolutely enjoyed this book. Trevor Noah has lived quite a life! Many times i was unable to fathom that this was based on real life events.

I enjoyed this book. It was an easy read. I did take everything said with a grain of salt as this book is written by a disinherited niece. She seemed too entitled imo. There were times while reading this book where i felt that the author’s intention was to get across the struggle and injustices her father, and by extent herself and brother, faced at the hand of her grandfather (Trumps dad) more so than telling the story of Donald Trump himself.
What i really enjoyed was the psychological aspect of this book and her tying in how Donalds childhood, family dynamics and his parents parenting style led to Donalds delusions that are evident to this day. Overall, this book is a good insight into the Trump family life.

WOW!! I found myself nodding in agreement to so many parts of this. I was attempting to make highlights but i gave up because i would end up highlighting the entire book. Lol.
I wish i was better at expressing my thoughts. These essays were so thought provoking. Race, money, beauty and more told from the perspective of an educated black woman. I stan!

This is one of those books that you will reread several times. It gives practical and applicable tips to live a more full filling life. They are:
1. Being impeccable with your word
2. Don’t take anything personal
3. Don’t make assumptions
4. Always do your best.
I didnt care much for the star and light mumbo jumbo talk in the beginning and ending of this book but the core is solid.
I’ll be trying to implement these in my life more.
