I loooved this! I love pretentious dying teens, and gifted Aza and her equally-gifted BFF Jason definitely fulfilled that desire for me. The fantasy element of this sounds so absurd but is pulled of SO WELL, and I was completely intrigued by the actual historical elements pulled into it (according to the author's endnotes, the historical research is real!) Basically... it turns out Aza has been dying on Earth because she's not human, she's Magonian... so basically, a bird person. And the bird people come to bring her to live on a ship in the sky, full of other bird people. They fly around and steal crops and stuff from earth, because of course, nothing can grow in the sky...
Anyway, this feels like such a fresh take on the ~misfit chosen one~ thing as well as the ~pretentious dying teen~ thing. So cool. Can't wait for the sequel!

SO fun! And I love that Angelica was taken seriously by the narrative itself, if not exactly by her sister.
If, like me, you enjoy Tony Stark and Bruce Banner having feelings about science and ethics at each other, you will enjoy this book immensely. If you're actually looking for a Hulk vs Iron Man fight, I mean... that's in here too. But it's mostly feelings.
also this is the first and maybe only book I've read from the Original Sin event, but if you're willing to accept that Tony and Bruce have swapped memories for ~space reasons~ it reads fine on its own.

This was really cute and funny! I thought it was a great use of Tumblr and other Youth Technologies, and the semi-anonymous romance worked so well. I also really liked all of the drama relating to Simon's friend group. Particularly everything surrounding Abby--because in high school (and other times) sometimes you do make fast, sudden friendships that you can't really explain to your older friends.
IDK, it all just felt very realistic and sweet.

I really liked this! It's a great blend of personal narrative, sociological history, and literary study. It's not really what I thought it would be--I was expecting something more like [b:Selfish, Shallow, and Self-Absorbed: Sixteen Writers on Their Decision Not To Have Kids|21853680|Selfish, Shallow, and Self-Absorbed Sixteen Writers on Their Decision Not To Have Kids|Meghan Daum|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1422266167s/21853680.jpg|41125562], but for un-marriedness? But I found this a really compelling reflection on life, and what one can gain/lose by having or not having a partner, as well as learning about Bolick's "awakeners," five historical women who were varying levels of spinster.
I might not have picked this one up until I read Margaret's review on GR that alerted me to the fact that this is a HIGH SCHOOL QUIZ BOWL ROMANCE. Quiz bowl! Yeah!
It's also a sensitive and smart look at a teen girl's grief and change over a school year. Would recommend to fans of Sarah Dessen etc. Also: fans of quiz bowl.

For me, this didn't really live up to the high bar set by [b:The True Meaning of Smekday|1194366|The True Meaning of Smekday|Adam Rex|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1434830649s/1194366.jpg|1182420], unfortunately. I was still happy to have more of Tip and J. Lo, and Bahni Turpin still did an amazing job with the audiobook. And I loved the parts with Tip's mom!
Spoiler
But the time travel stuff didn't really work for me? But also, I just tend not to like that kind of time travel story.
This book is RIDICULOUSLY racist but has a lot of good breakfast and sea creature scenes.

THE DRAMZ! I couldn't put it down. It's basically Center Stage x Gossip Girl. There are a LOT of issues here--eating disorders, racism, bullying... and, of course, love. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend it if "Center Stage x Gossip Girl" sounds like your cup of tea.
This went a little off the rails for me personally. I think maybe it ties in pretty closely with [b:X-Men: Battle of the Atom|18295931|X-Men Battle of the Atom|Brian Michael Bendis|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1381325416s/18295931.jpg|25778768], which I still haven't read?
Anyway, it just seemed really convoluted, even for X-Men.
