kind of living for this Lovecraftian situation, which is not a phrase I ever thought I'd say personally

the main story arc here was fun (I love KSD but I'm still not super invested in Aquaman?) but I'm OBSESSED with the one-shot at the end where a new villain pops up and introduces himself as SEA DADDY and everyone is like "absolutely we're not calling you that" and Arthur is like "You should call yourself Long John Silver instead" and then Sea Daddy wrecks the Founders Day festival but then they have a lovely Founders Day anyway!! That's my jam!!!

This is cuuuute! I've gotten more into the Constantine character via the Legends of Tomorrow show, only to be a little disappointed at how grim-dark most of his comics are compared to the cheerful chaos of that show. The adventures of teen Constantine are more what I'm looking for PERSONALLY. Ryan North is such a funny writer, and the grim, magic-noir-ish tone with teen problems is funny. This is from the DC Kids line and I would say the story is pretty simplistic but the comedy keeps the story moving along, unlike the Meg Cabot [b:Black Canary: Ignite|53259130|Black Canary Ignite|Meg Cabot|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1587798504l/53259130._SX50_.jpg|60078062] which is also from the DC Kids line and just felt really asinine because the story was so simple and it didn't really have much else going for it, SORRY MEG.

It's best for a children's graphic novel collection but would have tween appeal and also, adult Legends of Tomorrow fan appeal.

largely inoffensive, unexpectedly weird, not really my cup of tea.

so I wasn't very familiar with this character but got a lil curious what with the upcoming Oscar Isaac of it all, and I gotta tell you I spent the entirety of this book being like, "Sorry, the basic premise is WHAT?" and IDK why, it seems like it shouldn't be that much weirder than like the Hulk but actually? It is?

Also obsessed with the random (? or perhaps this is a beloved recurring character, how would I know) guard named Nick with an eyepatch who gets teased about being Nick Fury and then he's like "that's ableist!" Like OK as a book you are going to call out this one instance of ableism while having your book be about a PRETTY PROBLEMATIC CONCEPT IMO

Also sorry about BUSHMAN??? SORRY WHO?? WHAT???

Could Oscar Isaac not just do like a Mummy reboot or something what is this (I know the show isn't this exact comic or anything but IDK ABOUT ALL THIS)

also if there's a better Moon Knight book to read lmk I guess, this one was just on Hoopla when I was feeling curious but it's NOT THAT OLD it's from 2018 and it's still LIKE THIS so IDK MAN

This is an intriguing vol 1 for a relatively new character--I didn't know much about Silk and it was a little wild that she kept humorously-casually referring to having spent 10 years alone in a bunker?? Cindy what happened lol

But overall this was a fun book, I enjoyed Cindy's put-upon millennial vibes and the Instagram influencer villainess with a cat demon was right up my alley obv.

I did feel like I had missed some kinda context for this but eh I got enough to enjoy the premise of magic ghost Strange. It was pretty fun. Could always use more of Bats the Ghost Dog though.

hehe THIS is the kind of 90s nonsense I'm here for. Wolverine and Jubilee having a lil side adventure to save mutant kids from being trafficked...Mr. Sinister making clones to have dinner parties with...yes, please.

I don't read very much manga, so when I do I'm often a little thrown by the different stylistic conventions etc. But I picked this up because it looked sooo cute. And it was, in fact, sooo cute. I am furious at the penguin's owner for taking the penguin's labor for granted though. RISE UP, PENGUIN.

hmmm I wouldn't normally have picked up a noir-ish mystery novel on my own but I'd enjoyed Rosen's YA books and I was intrigued by the 50s queer San Francisco setting. (In the afterword Rosen notes that he'd turned in his first draft of this before [b:Last Night at the Telegraph Club|35224992|Last Night at the Telegraph Club|Malinda Lo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1593457992l/35224992._SY75_.jpg|56568979] came out but appreciated the similar settings, though they are wildly different. Anyway I think my love of Last Night at the Telegraph Club also drew me to the Lavender House, but again, they are very different books aside from the setting.)

Anyway sooo I enjoyed the historical detail but this wasn't reallly my cup of tea. I also see why Knives Out would be a comp, based on the family dynasty mystery aspect of it, but Knives Out is FUNNY, and Rosen's other books are FUNNY, and this book is PRETTY SERIOUS. And that's a totally valid thing for a mystery novel to be but I just prefer...not that. I wish there were either more development to actually flesh out all the characters who live in the Lavender House, or more jokes to distract me from the pretty flat characters.

Readers who enjoy murder mysteries in general will probably like this more than I did. But I still liked the historical setting and the Lavender House itself, just overall not my fav.
