I'm filing this along stuff like The Hunger Games where like objectively I don't even know if it's good or not, just that I HAD TO KEEP READING.
I'm pretty sure it was good?? who knows I just have to go read [b:Blue Lily, Lily Blue|17378508|Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle, #3)|Maggie Stiefvater|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1477103826l/17378508._SY75_.jpg|24170141] now, ttyl

I re-read this and it's still great! I definitely missed some stuff before because of reading it so fast.

AAAAAAAAAA
this got me so hype I paid actual money for book #3 on Kindle so I could have it immediately (which I almost never do; if I buy a book it's usually second-hand or first-hand from a local indie but like I said I NEEDED IT IMMEDIATELY)

Adorbs nerdy fluff! Some nice stuff about the ~power of fandom~ that will resonate with a lot of teens (and nerdy adults too). It's very tropey and none of the characters are quite fully-fleshed, but eh, who cares when you're having this much fun?
I love Nnedi Okorafor so I was very excited to get an ARC of this.
I think this will appeal to a lot of young readers--I love the American pop culture references combined with the specificity of being grounded in Nigerian culture. However for me, I didn't love it the way I've loved some of her other works--but I'm not exactly the target audience. It's an enjoyable middle grade adventure and I think this will be great for some younger readers who have struggled to find books they can connect to.

The Rick Riordan Presents books are still killing it! I read Roanhorse's adult sci-fi book and found it a bit too gritty for my personal tastes, but this middle-grade story was just right for my delicate sensibilities. Nizhoni is a great narrator and this was a really fun quest with a very satisfying conclusion, though still setting itself up for a sequel (that I can't wait to read)!
I loved this story of teen activists in New York! Their friendship feels so real, as do their struggles. This is a great one to make activists feel supported and seen, and might just also help some other readers understand "what's the big deal" about stuff like offensive Halloween costumes or racist micro-aggressions from teachers. Very timely and fresh, with such strong character voices.
This is another messy, lovely story. I loved Fred and her queer friends group so much, and the ups and downs of her relationship with Laura felt so real. This will really resonate with contemporary teens, especially queer ones.
(read as single issues)

A FANTASTIC graphic novel for tweens. Sharp and funny and really relatable for anyone who's ever been "the new kid" anywhere, but particularly great in its representation of microaggressions. I love its use of cartoons drawn by the protagonist, particularly when they're laden with pop culture references. A great book to hand to fans of Wimpy Kid and Raina, etc.
