I mean, I'm interested in the Lydia Nance stuff and the theoretical idea of Orange is the New X-Men jail arc, but this all maybe could have used a few more issues for the ideas to breathe? IDK.

uhhh I mean I guess I've never felt that invested in the Kitty/Piotr relationship and it turns out, neither do Kitty and Piotr?

surprising no one I did enjoy the Rogue & Gambit wedding, don't @ me

I couldn't put this down. Bri's voice is so strong and compelling, she's a smart, funny teen who has gone through some real challenges and sometimes reacts in a realistically messy way. I was rooting for her the whole way, and I think that, like THUG, this book unpacks racist macro- and micro-aggressions in subtle and important ways.

I also love all the pop culture references sprinkled throughout--they add a lot of humor but also realism and timeliness.

This book:
- was pretty funny
- did not live up to the promise of its truly excellent title
- seemed to be an example of a genre that I think of as "printed off blog entries" even though this was never originally a blog. like I'm just on the cusp of being like, are we okay with just including AIM-style verbs like "*prints off blog entry*" in books now? I guess we are?
- I definitely found chunks of this extremely funny and #relatable
- I found other chunks bewildering; for example I have never as an adult woman spent much time frantically wondering if something was a date the way Blythe apparently does
- given the title it's obv very heterocentric although she does occasionally mention pieces of advice from her gay friends. She's also not really trying to do anything universal.
-I guess I am having trouble formulating what this book IS? I saw another review call it a "satire of dating handbooks" and I don't think it's really that. I think it's just kind of a confusingly formatted memoir of "dating" from someone who says she's never had a boyfriend? Which is...confusing.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I never really saw Jem when I was a kid, so I don't have any real nostalgia for the concept. BUT I kept hearing that the comic was awesome so I checked it out, and: it's pretty awesome! VERY fun, awesome characters with awesome, developed friendships (and a star-crossed queer romance)!

I think a lot of tweens and teens would love this (and the content is tween-appropriate--nothing beyond kissing, romance wise) but I think it might be a hard sell, since the cartoon is so old and the movie tanked. But for kids interested in stories about music, or magical girl-type stories, or sweet romance... definitely recommended! (Oh and adults too)

Oh I guess I forgot to mark this one as "read" when I read it?? It was great tho! I cried a bunch and the measured way that Annabelle's trauma unfolded kept me on the edge of my seat. I haven't seen much media engage with this particular way that boys feel entitled to girls' time and affection, and how damaging that can be.

And yet this is ultimately a hopeful book, one that believes in the possibility of recovery. <3

I recommend reading this book if you want to be armed with wild facts about Warren Jeffs that you can sprinkle into conversations whenever things are slow.

I was aware of this series and I knew it was romantic suspense but I DIDN'T know that it's also set in the future?? It's wild but of course I enjoyed it, Our Lady Nora/JD is so great at creating compelling characters & relationships of all sorts. And heroic animals of course!

I'd never read these before, only the first run of Runaways (lolz) so I was glad to finally read more of their story! It doesn't come together quite as perfectly as the first run, but it's a lot of fun to see more of these characters and it does the whole time travel ethics thing pretty splendidly. Also, hooray for Karolina and her sexy Super Skrull-in-training girlfriend!

I LIVE for a full story arc of Stephen Strange being condescended to by a lady alien. I also like that the comics seem to keep taking away his magic and rebooting his origin story, which is great because his original origin story is gross. They're coming closer and closer to confronting the colonialism of it all. Also he still has his ghost dog from the last reboot so upgrades all around!
