Get A Life, Chloe Brown is one of the most entertaining books I have read in a while. Chloe is kind of like a cat, she can be a little bitchy, and that seems to have rubbed a lot of readers the wrong way. I loved her on so many levels. She starts out by risking herself to save a cat stuck in a tree. Maybe I am biased because I am a cat lady, but I just really loved her interactions throughout the entire book. She is a very guarded person, and does not interact well with people. I am very similar in that regard.
There is a wonderful romantic build up in this book which can get slightly risque at times. I loved it a lot. In ways, it reminds me of [b:The Kiss Quotient|36199084|The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient, #1)|Helen Hoang|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1527983633l/36199084._SX50_.jpg|57828311]. If you like that book, I have a reaaly good feeling you will enjoy this one as well.
Easiest 5 stars I have given a book in a while. I can't wait for the companion novel and I hope one day we see a film adaptation of this book.

I did a bad thing in the book community. I watched the movie first. I think that was actually a good thing in this instance though. I really loved listening to this book. I fell in love all over again with the characters. I can't wait to continue on with the story and spend more time with Lara Jean!

Oh but why does it end like this? I cannot wait for the second book.
I clung to every word of every page. And then it broke my heart, but also filled me with hope and love. How can something so beautiful even exist?
It took me a little while to get used to the writing style and the language, but after that it was easy to read and fall into. I remember first reading the synopsis of this book at Barnes & Noble and I was said, "Well that seems dumb." I was so wrong. This is a beautiful story of hope, love, and changing the world.
I highly recommend everyone read this book. It is simply amazing. The writing, the story, everything down to the last word.
2nd read through:
Ugh it gave me all the feels again. Even though I knew what was going to happen, it still hurt my heart. This remains my favorite book.

Where do I start? So much happened in this book, and it was all over the place! I don't mean this in a bad way though. Mystery/Fantasy with a gothic twist, you can't go wrong with that.
The story took all kinds of turns I wasn't expecting. We have a killer, and while I thought I had it figured it out, I was second guessing myself the whole time. Close to the end of the story, something is revealed that just throws you for a loop. The story just continues to get more and more weird from there.
There are A LOT of characters in the story. Honestly, I can only name a few, and I just finished the book. It wouldn't be a bad idea to take a note of these characters names when you start if you feel this is important. I love Annaleigh. She's a mess, and rightfully so after losing so much family. Her youngest sister Verity is a doll! I was indifferent to the love interest though.
I love how the author crafted this story. It was beautiful, haunting, and captivating. I was not expecting to love House of Salt and Sorrows as much as I did, but I will be thinking about this book for a while.

A witch is forced to marry a witch hunter. Enemies-to-lovers. Snarky, badass, brave, foul-mouthed, amazing female main character. Chivalrous, charming, cocky male character. Any of those sound amazing? All of them sound amazing? Serpent and Dove is the book for you! I promise you won’t be disappointed, and you’ll be thanking me for recommending this book.
The writing is impressive for a debut novel. It did not feel amateur at all. It is fluid and clear and keeps you hooked. The pacing rarely felt slow, but there were times that it did. That can happen though when there is a lot of world building and information being given to the reader. This is the only reason it is not a perfect book in my opinion. I really enjoyed Shelby’s writing style and not only look forward to the sequel, but look forward to future novels from her.
A witch must marry a witch hunter, what more do you need? I had high expectations for this book just from that premise. This book has enemies-to-lovers and I never need more than that. This book is absolutely New Adult and not Young Adult due to some sexual interactions that are vividly described in this book.
Serpent & Dove is hard to put down. I flew through this and spent every waking moment trying to read it. I was supposed to buddy read this for a week and finished in about 3 days. The world is beautiful and intricate and every detail holds your attention.
I cannot speak enough to the plot build up. The biggest question I wanted answered was why a witch and witch hunter are getting married. Of course, that gets answered, but not knowing while reading was the best book pain. Shelby Mahurin is a master storyteller already.
There is something I would like to address in regards to the time period that this book is set in. Throughout the book, women are spoken of negatively and as worthless. This is how women were viewed in the 18th century, and I think it was properly woven through the story, even though it is annoying. This added to the emphasis of the time period and why certain things happened the way they did in the book.
Literally everything about these characters is fantastic.
Lou is the snarky, mouthy book love of my life! She doesn’t hold a damn thing back, and she wants you to know how she feels at every turn. She’s gone through a lot in her life already. She doesn’t let that stop her. Who doesn’t love a female lead who will “stick it to the man” and come out stronger than ever?
Reid Diggory, let’s be real, he’s an ancestor to Cedric Diggory. Ok not really, but that’s what I told myself so I could stop imagining Robert Pattinson's baby face. Reid is such an upstanding wholesome God fearing man. I found myself wanting him to crack the entire book. I won’t spoil whether he does or not. Even though some of his values are clearly clouded, he has the best intentions and you can’t help but love him the entire time.

Pretty cute romance! At first it starts our slightly mysterious, and you are wondering why the main character is being interviews by the police. Carey and James are intriguing characters and really keep you intrigued the entire book. I loved it!
This book was such a let down. It was slow, boring, had barely any story, and ended with absolutely nothing. There is supposed to be a sequel, which I won't be reading. I don't even remember what happened at the end already. I should have just dnf'd this honestly. This book was definitely not for me, but may be for you. This is hyped up to be a great revenge story and it was so far from it.
