Reeeeeally strong sexist vibes, especially in the second half. Just unnecessary descriptions of rape, and beyond that Unnecessary emphasis and detailed description of rainwater falling between beasts and into genitalia; and a whole bunch of small comments that were hard to identify as being either sexist or something close to sexist.
Also SO much detailed discussion of poop. Every chapter mentions how much poop is everywhere, numerous times. I'm not even joking. I was trying to stick it out to the end, but I just can't.

Graphic: Rape, Sexism, Excrement
Moderate: Confinement, Death, Death of parent
Was listening to an audio book version and found the voice boring
Nicely written book but a bit too silly and leaning too hard into fun romance, which I don't really care for.
The main character is so insufferable terrible and selfish, whiny and cowardly. I liked maybe the first 40%, then the storyline dragged in the most boring way. And then all of Quintan's most awful personality traits came to a head as he does something just idiotic and selfish and cruel, and then acts like a baby about it, a big raging dumb baby. I just can't finish it, it got so bad, the perspective is all his whine thoughts, and just... .ugh
I've already watched some documentary about it, and I realized I still remember much of the details, and also remembered exactly how crushingly sad it all is, how horrible men were at that time and still are today, to people they think less than them.
