This is by far one of the most disturbing books I have ever read. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a sensitive stomach or with any anxiety issues whatsoever. I actually don't really know how I managed to finish it myself.

Ok, I think I know how. In terms of writing, I found the book brilliant. It has a very good plot, a unique story written in the form of a grotesque satire. As much as I considered it horrifying and disturbing, I found it very difficult to put it down because I really wanted to know what was going to happen.

Now, what is it all about? 

The action takes places in the future after a virus has made all animal meat uneatable so people have resorted to the solution of practising cannibalism in order to be able to survive. As a result, the animal factories have been replaced with human factories where humans are mass produced for consumption and sacrificed in a similar way animals are sacrificed nowadays.

Marcos, the main character, has lost almost everything: his wife left him and his father ia struggling with dementia. Human contact with 'the meat' is forbidden but Marcos finds himself in a situation where he starts having a forbidden relationship with one of the subjects.

The book is really shocking in the beginning but while reading the shock factor wears off and leaves space for questions. Questions about humanity, about ourselves, about where we are right now and if what we do is the right thing to do.

If you have a good stomach, please read this book. If not, don't. It has details, lots of them.
