This was a quick, quirky read. I can’t decide if I liked it or not :P It was a very unique reading experience and I laughed out loud several times. I’d say it’s worth the read :)
I loved this book! It was a fun, quick read. I grew up watching the movie, but the book was (as usual) much better, though I enjoyed the similarities the movie had to the book. Matilda is a lovely little character, and I know it would have been a dear favorite as a child. Most everything seemed very black and white, and the bad characters were quite bad indeed, which I wish had been done differently. I think it's important to show at least hints of backstory into why characters are the way they are, especially if they're horrible to the extreme that the Trunchbull and the parents were. Yet the characters did work for the story, and it was a fun read. I highly recommend it!
Well. That was freaky :P
It had its flaws, but I still enjoyed the read! It was short enough to whiz through, though I would have liked the author to establish whether or not the ghost was real, though that would have gone against the mystery element she wanted for the story. I just felt like I couldn’t be fully invested in the story because I didn’t know the boundaries of the story world.
But I loved the realism of the characters and Zach’s struggle, even though I couldn’t fully understand it. I would read it again just to get a clearer understanding of it!
Overall, it was a good read and I’d recommend it to MG horror lovers.
