Edit: Yay for the HCPUnion ratifying their contract! I’ve had forever to think about the ending of this trilogy and the only coherent thought in my head is that I can’t wait to read everything R.F. Kuang releases.

This retelling felt very conservative, but for a fic it still made me happy and I finished it in almost a day. I wish the circumstances of the first proposal had been changed, I thought at first that Col. Fitzwilliam must not have told Elizabeth about Darcy and Bingley and Jane, but overall it was a fun read that had enough swoon-worthy lines to make up for some modern descriptions.

The first 1/2 of the book I found it hard to put down. The last 1/4 was a slog to get through. It’s not the kind of book I normally read, and the violence and misogyny really became too much. I hated almost every character by the end, and I lost track of a lot of the mobsters.

The story was even more gripping on the second read.

Beautiful balance of magic and romance ✨ Can’t believe I forgot to put the sequel on hold once I got into this one - I was tempted to buy this already but I guess I must get the set now as it’s a months wait!
