A fantastic, clever and powerful read. I don't think I need to say anything else except see for yourself.
Kind of slow but the plot was so interesting that I did want to know what happened at the end. I enjoyed all of the characters and the pictures included were a great addition! I think this is a great book, but nothing spectacular and I'm not very interested in reading any more of the series.
I desperately need to reread this book. I know this book can either be a love or hate thing and I think it all boils down to whether you can relate to (or empathise with) Holden or not. I'd recommend it anyday as I found it a really funny, enjoyable coming of age novel. All I remember is that I loved this book but to give a more thorough review, I definitely need to reread it.
First off, I promise you'll devour this book in no time, even in one sitting. Rightly compared to The Girl On The Train. Just as excellent, keeps you guessing just as much and the ending was just as surprising. I really sympathised with the main character and was really rooting for her. Great, great read.
Delicate, beautifully sad, confusingly familiar. Yoshimoto leaves the endings of these three short stories ambiguous which fits the tone completely. All three stories are about sleep and dreaming and there's an undeniable dreamlike quality to the writing which I fell completely and utterly in love with.
I found this lovely, strange and diverse. All of the characters were well written and diverse and the feelings in the book described so well that I felt each and every one deeply. I'm really in love with magical realism books at the moment so not a surprise that I enjoyed this so much.
Great great great. As a lover of magical realism this definitely ticked all my boxes. I loved the complex relationship and the ending had me sobbing.
This book keeps you hooked and engrossed from start to finish. You constantly think you're going to find something out, but nope! Or you DO find something out and it turns out that was pretty much a load of crap.
I loved the plot twists, the suspense and mystery. I didn't like Laura at all though, and not even in a "love to hate" kind of way. I found myself rolling my eyes at her almost all the way through. She was a very weak character with nothing much about her.
I think it was great that we were constantly on the cusp of this being a paranormal book, and at times I was very convinced it was, but it always pulls it back in at the last second.
The whole thing is very believable and real, and I can imagine this is exactly what it feels like to go through something so traumatic and be haunted by it, almost literally.

The end totally took me by surprise. I really enjoyed reading this book and once it got going I couldn't put it down! I've only recently started reading suspense/thriller books and it was nice to read one from the POV of a teen. A great concept but a bit of a slow starter.
Slow starting with a lot of waffling that built up to a ridiculously fast conclusion. Though it was waffly, and IMO a lot of it could have been condensed or removed completely, the descriptions were wonderful and really gave me a feel for the place. I didn't really feel attached to any character despite all the time we're given to get to know them and nothing ever really felt urgent to me until the finale, which was over in the blink of an eye.
However, I still feel like this was a great read and deserves 3.5 stars. I'd love to read something very similar to this, but with more urgency and less waffle.
