One of the sweetest, most poignant LGBTQ story that I have read in a long time. Yaichi's journey in recognizing and confronting his internalized homophobia was expertly handling, and I love that Mike, while being a confidant to a closeted gay man and a mentor to a young boy just discovering his sexuality, his character doesn't start and stop at his own sexuality. He's also a husband, a beloved uncle, a tourist taking in Japanese culture, a widower, he's able to be a well-rounded and complete person.

Every emotion this story aims for hits the mark exactly and I was left with a satisfying feeling of closure at the end. Definitely a must read for manga lovers and those that enjoy queer themes.

Gideon is the badass, snarky female character I would have adored as a kid/teen and I absolutely do now! Her character is definitely the highlight of the book and it's worth picking up this series alone for her.

The world took a bit of time to settle into. We're introduced to a broad cast of characters in a short amount of time, but it gets easier as the story goes on. I would have loved a bit more history or description as to how the others houses worked and the history of this world in general, but I suppose that may come in future books.

Also, I find it funny that this book is promoted as "lesbian necromancers in space" when space places such a little role in the story and, while there are hints of flirting here and there, so does the romance.

I decided to pick up the first volume of this series as I've been hearing nothing but praise for the animated show, so I wanted to check out the source material first. And...I may have been wrong in that. There is nothing really special about this story to me. Every character seems paper thin, which of course, may be somewhat expected when the collection is only four issues, but there is no reason for me to get invested in Mark's story. Everything seems to come easy to him: his powers, his costume, his triumphs, everything gets solved way too easily. There isn't a struggle, internal or external, which, again, may be due to me having only read four issues, but they weren't enough to grab my attention in any way. Maybe I would be better off just checking out the series.

Absolutely loved this series when it was first coming out as a webcomic and now I'm glad to have it as a physical copy. The book itself is beautiful and I love the comedy that comes out of the dynamics of the main characters. My only gripe is that I just want more. I could definitely follow a series with Elsie and Jimmy.
