The City in the Middle of the Night

I really tried with this one, I really did. There's nothing objectively wrong with the story, I just have a difficult time reading hard science fiction, as it's not usually my genre. I made it nearly halfway into the book and I had yet to connect with any of the characters or their plights. The writing style didn't leave an impression on me and overall came off as bland and void of any gripping quality. The pace is incredibly slow, to the point where it feels like the characters keep repeating their goals and motivations and generally fumble around until plot happens. I'm sure this will be someone's favorite book, but it really didn't do anything for me.

The Sight

Stopped after around the first 100 pages because, while the prose is engaging at times, it really doesn't help the fact that the plot moves like an iceberg. The not subtle at all Christian allegory for the wolves mythology is a little uncreative and distracting as it's basically "X biblical figure, but a wolf." Author wants to balance having the wolves' perspective of the world, but also wants to describe the humans and settings with human context, so it all seems a bit jumbled. After reading some of the spoilers, kind of glad I stopped when I did, because that ending really would have soured my stomach and lead to a book-sized dent in my wall.
