Great visuals that enhance the dreamlike quality of many scenes as well as the brighter colors lending so much to the sci fi setting. I had a hard time following some of the events and sometimes some of the characters blur together after a while. It may be because I was speed reading this one to return it to the library, but I think it has a good emotional payoff.

As a librarian, conversations and actions around book banning are an every day occurrence. You fight the good fight, inform when you're able, and hope for the best. It's books like this one that I really appreciate adding into our collection so that people, especially younger library patrons, are informed about this issue and in turn feel like there is something they can do to stand up for their right to read.
This anthology brings together a band of banned authors to offer insight, perspectives, and resources around book challenges and bans aimed at a young adult audience. I found it incredibly accessible and loved seeing works from writers that I admire. Their resilience and dedication to their works and protecting others access to them is so palpable on the page. It hurts that books like these are necessary, perhaps with their rise we will see a more informed populous that maybe one day they won't be.

There's really a lot to unpack here. Rosetti establishes a great tone throughout, balancing mystery and menace. I dont' think I'm in the right mind space to analyze every theme or bit of subtext, so I may have to revisit in the future.

I think it's safe to say that I think with Dragonsbane I have grown out of the Dark Hunter series. Started when I was a teen, went into my early twenties, and now a decade later I return to a series that I think I just don't really vibe with anymore. The relationships are dull, repetitive, and honestly feel like they just get in the way of the more interesting and larger story playing in the background. I noticed this especially in the last couple of books. I think I'm simply tired of the same tragic backstories, the same snarky one liners that every character seems to have (and with 26 books there are A LOT of characters.)
The entire book felt so disjointed, as every scene was the characters being pushed from one place to another without much cohesion or grace. I will say that the overarching story is getting to a neat place, but I don't want to sort through more lackluster couples to get to it.

I am absolutely in love with this art style. It really fits in with the feel of the era and the color pallet really makes it stand out.

I know I'm going against the hype by saying this, but I really thought this book was a tad dull. It was a bit lower paced that what I usually read, and sometimes I'm fine with that in character-driven stories. Here, though, it really felt like things were being dragged out. I nearly quit a few times, but I finished mostly due to a reading challenge.
The book needed more Marcellus since that was really the only character whose perspective I was really looking forward to reading. Perhaps because his chapters were short and sweet, and a little of him can go a long way, but there really wasn't anything else that kept me reading.
I do appreciate the book having an older protagonist since those are very rare in fiction, and it is easy to see how this book would interest others. It just wasn't for me.

It has taken me too long to get this book off of my TBR and into my hands. I really enjoyed the world building and the unwavering bonds between the characters. There was so much to like about Deka, mostly her development from an ashamed girl that was absolutely terrified of what she was capable of to a fierce, determined leader that found so much strength in who she was and from those around her.
I think the last half was a bit unevenly paced, as certain plot points moved at odd speeds or the sequencing felt off. Still, I will definitely continue this series to see what comes next.

Has an interesting concept but the writing style/dialogue kept breaking me out of it. It just felt like I couldn't adjust to it. I know that this story is going to find its audience with a great setup and world, but it wasn't for me.
