The perfect combination of charming and spooky.

Was not prepared to be hit with the sadness, but really enjoyed this lil spooky coming of age story.

Was not prepared for how absolutely beautiful this book was.

Kitty Collins is walking home from a bar one night when she accidentally kills a man who has followed her. This spirals into a spree as Kitty seeks out bad men in order to serve a little justice.

HOW TO KILL MEN AND GET AWAY WITH IT by Katy Brent was really fun in the first quarter. It had a lot of FINLAY DONOVAN and KILLING EVE vibes, and was just an overall good time (with a side of murder).

However, as the book went on, the storyline got extremely convoluted, the word “vegan” was used approximately 250 times, and a miscarriage and rape were used as lies to propel the story…yeah, a whole lot of cringing coming from this reader.

Seeing as this is Katy Brent’s first novel, I could see myself giving a future book of hers a go, but this one was a no for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and HQ Digital for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I could easily see this being a five star read if we didn’t get 6:30’s point of view 😂 it just pushed it a little too far for me.

Sixteen-year-old Sayers Wayte has everything - until he’s kidnapped by a man who tells him the privileged life he’s been living is based on a lie.

DARK ROOM ETIQUETTE was my first read by Robin Roe, and wow, did it pack a punch.

This one is hefty, coming in at 512 pages, but reads much quicker than that. Filled with emotion, this one had me publicly crying and flipping pages to see where the story would go next.

I will say, the first portion of the book was suuuper uncomfortable to read because our main character Sayers is really just an awful person, but the way Roe manages to make the reader feel empathy for him by the halfway point, despite everything, is really beautiful.

If you’re in the right headspace to read about trauma and the aftermath of that trauma, I highly recommend picking this one up.

Huge thanks to Robin Roe, NetGalley, and Harper Collins/HarperTeen for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
