A majority of this book was just a cringey romance with the phrase “blue, blue eyes” mentioned about 50 times. And the number of times the “big city girl” got hurt by nature was laughable.

I’m so disappointed I didn’t enjoy this one and even the “big reveal” at the end lacked enough motivation for it to even have any real payoff for me 😭

Really Good, Actually

I wanted so badly to love this one (because who wouldn’t want this cover on their shelves??), but I had such a hard time enjoying picking this one up and the writing style just wasn’t working for me.

I felt that a lot of the character’s depth was lacking.

Really really loved the main characters in this one.

The whodunit seemed a little predictable, but I did still enjoy watching the leads work together to figure everything out!

25 years ago, Savior House, a group home for teens, was closed after several girls disappeared. Now, Jenna, Nico, and Donnie are faced with their past and the secrets buried there when someone sets out to kill each of them.

I’ve read all of Alex Finlay’s work and WHAT HAVE WE DONE is easily my favorite!

This book is packed with all of the things I love: multiple timelines, alternating POVs, short chapters, and a creepy home for orphans?! SIGN ME UP.

This one gets a bit outlandish, so brace yourself, but the craziness made this book hard to put down.

Jenna was hands down my favorite character - a true badass lead you’d want in your corner - and I looked forward to her name popping up in the chapter headings!

Celia spends her fortieth birthday surrounded by friends and her loving husband, but after finding an upsetting note mixed in with her birthday cards, she leaves home in the middle of the night to clear her head and then vanishes. Her estranged sister launches her own investigation to find out what happened to Celia.

GONE AGAIN is my first book by Minka Kent and, I’ve gotta say, the beginning chapters had me hooked! I love religious culty ish!

This book utilized multiple timelines and POVs (loved!) to piece together our main character, Celia’s, past and how it led to where she is now.

The investigative aspect was great because I just love hearing all the tea from fictional characters! However, that’s also where this book started to fall apart for me. A lot of statements that were brought up were just brushed under the rug, never to be brought up again.

The ending also felt rushed and didn’t seem to fully connect compared to where the story appeared to be going…

Overall, a quick read with a lot of very intriguing moments!

I almost DNF’ed this on multiple occasions, and kind of wish I went with that gut instinct??

The story was extremely predictable, the characters were all unlikeable, and the romance was cringe.

There also wasn’t any actual fraud so…

I think this is a tricky one to dive into as my first Tommy and Tuppence novel as it’s made up of a bunch of shorter mysteries and isn’t just one long story.

Also, with any short story collection, some of these were really solid and others were very forgettable.

I did find their banter to be very intriguing and  I am looking forward to getting to know these characters better in a longer format!

Just as easy to devour as the first one!

Loved the twists and turns in this one and loved being back with our girl Millie once again!
