The Surgeon

Leslie Wolfe

DID NOT FINISH: 44%

Halfway through and it’s predictable, the characters are annoying, and I found myself not caring how things wrapped up.

The romance aspect of this one was very meh, but I loved all of the family dynamics and exploration!

I’m always beyond stoked to dive into The Narrows again! This definitely felt like a teaser for a longer novel 👀 and I hope we see Willa and Koy again!

In alternating timelines, horror and Celtic myth are woven into a family’s history and the secrets kept there. At the heart of it all, is an Irish children’s television show with an even darker presence. When the door between the known and unknown opens, it can never close again.

KNOCK KNOCK, OPEN WIDE by Neil Sharpson was a truly enjoyable coming of age horror novel!

I was a bit nervous about the folklore element when diving into this one, but found that it really took a backseat to the family and relationship dynamics that showed up on page.

This book managed to bring tears to my eyes and the dialogue felt so unbelievably natural at times that I was completely sucked in.

The spooky element definitely hit when it needed to and added a really nice mystery to the story!

Thanks to NetGalley and Tor Nightfire for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

While I did really enjoy the overall mystery of this one, I did find myself constantly trying to piece everything together, which took away from the overall story for me!

There’s just something about Irish fiction 🥲😭

Vesper Wright is easily the black sheep of her family. When she left her very religious community at eighteen, she vowed to never look back. However, an invite to her cousin Rosie and Brody’s (Vesper’s ex and one true love) wedding may be what it takes for her to go back on her word.

BLACK SHEEP by Rachel Harrison was such a special treat!

I recommend going into this one as blind as possible (I kept my synopsis vague for that reason!) because the twists and turns this book took were truly *chef’s kiss*

I absolutely loved Vesper as a character and could relate to the messy dynamics between her and her fam, and also navigating the world as a twentysomething.

Definitely my fave from Harrison so far (though I still have some of her backlist to get through)!

Absolutely the perfect read for spooky season!

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

While I didn’t love the whole concept and execution of Superfüd in this one, the emotion and sense of family and friendship really pulled through!

Loved all the new info and world-building we got in this one!

Creating spells and the overall Sitterhood were faves for sure.
