The writing style and me were just not gelling, I found it really jarring and it was a constant reminder that I was reading rather than being an escape. I tried the audiobook and the issues I had were exacerbated so I think this one is just not more

I really wanted to like this book because the premise was so interesting and Aṅụrị is a very interesting character, but I'm just not getting on with the writing. On an individual sentence level, the writing is good but a lot of the time I feel like passages are almost over-written and it has the effect that it drags the pace down of what is already a relatively slow book.

I skim-reread Curse of Saints before diving into this which was probably a mistake because even though I'd enjoyed it the first time around, I couldn't help but feel frustrated at a few aspects of the writing and characterisation.

Aya still does not seem a great spy, we're just told she is, Will and Aya's relationship is grounded entirely in years of not communicating and mistrust and 15% in the story hasn't developed from where we left off at the end of book 1, and given how long this book is that makes me kind of dread how slow the plot might be. It's time I stopped trying to force myself to continue because of the imagined payoff of a twisty story with shock value.

Way too silly for me at the moment and I'm not getting on with the humour.
