It's been days since I've finished this book and I still get emotional when I think of the ending. Maybe I'll cry right now, too. Goddammit.

Interesting prose, powerful horror scenes, emotional charge. I love it. 5/5 would recommend to everyone that breathes and then to those that don't.

I think my brain is melting. Not really in a good way, either.

Beginning: A full star for the beginning because the set up was good and the humor was great! Loved it.

Middle: Meh.
They took too long to fuck because the "plot" was going nowhere until they did, but then they DID and the plot was STILL sidelined in favor of 4 more cringey sex scenes IN SEQUENCE. No thanks.

End: Talk about anti-climatic. Worst 3rd act break-up imaginable. Mariel is so hateable for her vile reactions to literally anything mildly inconvenient.
The horrid Narc Mom (tm) apologizes, the environmental subplot is said to be fixed tho who knows how that even went down, and the lifespan issue is miraculously resolved - just because.

Lame.

So like, what the fuck was that ending. What the fuck? Jesus H. Christ on a stick, I'm so mad but also kinda impressed. Fuck this pseudo cliffhanger.

Great stories! The ones with the touches of magical realism were great, but the litfic focused ones were so, so good that I kinda wish more of the stories had been focused on litfic. My favorites were: 'Phillip is Dead', 'Self-Portrait with Ghost', and 'In the Event'. Sadly 'The Odd Women' was my least favorite and it had the misfortune of being not only the longest story, but the final story that led me to try and slog through the last of the book, leaving me feeling less than super happy with the entire experience.

Great poems, the first section wasn't my favorite, but the themes of murder, death and longing, as well as the decay of nature were some of my favorites and most profound.

Reading this was like watching a telenovela but in English... and a book... with substantially less slapping.

Cute and funny. Doesn't have the most extensive bird information and is more of a general info guide than any kind of identification tool. Has good basic information though and I definitely jive with author's sense of humor lol.

Very 1950's view points in this one that did not age so great. Otherwise it's not a bad book, but it's not the exciting 'humanity against the invaders' action piece it might've been, but rather a 200+ page repetitive sermon on chaos vs order, the human condition, and pointing fingers at satellites. Could've used a lot more plant warfare.

Not as action-y as book 1, but I would die for ART.
