This was a fun read. I appreciated some of the twists, surprises, and the explosive ending

The Defiant Queen

I loved The Accidental Queen so much and was so excited for more of Shaya and Baas. However, I did not like the direction that this story took and if felt like a lot of it was just for shock value and to drag it out. Unfortunately I also found the ending very unsatisfying. It felt like we went through all of this almost for nothing.

Frankly I do not agree with Shaya's decision to
not tell Baas that he had a child. I understand that she didn't want to interfere with his marriage but that doesn't make it okay. Jay's delusion felt so our of nowhere and like unnecessary drama. For them to then decide that they want Bailey back despite it being a closed adoption just to turn around and take it back made it feel like it was pointless. And the in the epilogue finding out that Bailey's parents died before they could tell her the truth. Literally it's just like "honey you're adopted and we're going to contact your birth parents. The end" No reunion, no processing, no real conclusion

Tired of Brandon’s temper tantrums. Nadia could have avoided all of the drama and I did not appreciate the way that infertility was discussed here

I think that this series should have stayed a trilogy. At this point how many more tourists or strangers are going to be murdered in this random small town?
Also Lila is insufferable. I didn't care for the romance and even though she's supposed to be super into her boyfriend the fact that she talked about her ex sooooo much in book FIVE is unnecessary

I really didn't like Avery or Tori very much and the way that they just consistently hurt themselves and each other. I also find it very weird that Avery
spent so much time building a relationship with another woman while being in love with someone else and wasting both of their time. Maya was also terrible. But then for him to kiss Tori while they're still together especially after Tori's marriage ended due to infidelity..........grow up

I loved Take a Chance and while I enjoyed this for the most part I was very annoyed with the way that
Laila pulled away from Bryce despite the fact that he literally did everything that he could to honor her wishes. One incident where one person goes out of their way to be invasive should not be blamed on him. I also didn't understand what the point of having his sister dislike her was especially since it was never resolved. Also not a fan of surprise baby tropes and could have done without it
