Heeeeeey, this was pretty good! I was in the mood for a mindless romance and turned to Audible like I always do. I’ve never heard of this series or this author before in my life, but the angel thing intrigued me. I was thinking/hoping this would be the adult version of [b:Angelfall|15863832|Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1)|Susan Ee|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1464206558s/15863832.jpg|16435765]—literally the only other angel book I’ve ever read—and can report they’re absolutely nothing alike. Well, besides the whole ancient winged angel falling for a young human thing. Cue eye roll. But that didn’t stop me from enjoying this story anyway!

Accepting head nod

First of all, let me say that I thought the narrator of this book was excellent! I don’t know if it’s just the books I listen to, or if it’s a major trend for all audiobooks, but I feel like I rarely ever hear male narrators that aren’t apart of a whole cast of people. It was nice! Bellmore had a great voice that captured my attention immediately and did a wonderful job voicing the characters.

The two main characters are actually pretty awesome and they’re really what kept me going with this. I loved Annabelle! She was tough with a great sense of humor and I didn’t find her annoying like I usually do with the female protagonists in romance novels. And I surprisingly liked Zacharel too, especially once he started getting some and loosening up a little. A hottie who forcibly can’t lie to you? Ummmm, yes please! I can totally understand how people could find his character flat, but to be fair, that’s kind of the point. He’s like the Grinch growing a heart when he discovers love.

The Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day

I will say that I got a little bored during Thane’s parts. I didn’t really like his character or his friends at all and started tuning out his sections after a while. There’s no way I’ll be able to handle a whole book of him unless a miracle happens in the next one. And I didn’t really understand the importance his storyline had to the main plot between Zacharel and Annabel??? It offered a different perspective on what was going on sometimes, but it was mostly separate. This thing dragged on a little too long and cutting out some of his parts would help a looooooot.

Actually, speaking of being drawn out, it felt like this book just went on and on and on. I was invested in the beginning, but by the end I was REALLY struggling to continue. Once I got about 80% through I had to force myself to keep going because I kind of stopped caring. This audiobook was 12 hours long, but I feel like it should really be only 8 or 9.

Luckily there’s a huge twist at the end that managed to wake me up because DAAAAAMN! Did not see that coming.

FINAL WORD

Meh. I really liked the beginning half, but was over it by the end. I’d say read it if you need to remember what an honest man sounds like.

Yay! It’s back!! Four books later and I still don’t completely understand why I love this reverse harem series so much, but I do. So here we are. And I’m happy to report that my fourth foray into the Curse of the Gods was just a great as the previous books!

I will say that the plot felt a little stunted in this installment because more time is spent on Willa getting it on with the Abcurses. But it’s just so hard to care when those guys are around. All I’m gonna say is, they DEFINITELY aren’t treating her like a girl-brother anymore and Willa is getting pretty good about keeping things “even”...

WINK WINK

Plus, any slow movement in the plot department is made up for with hilarious humor and a pretty explosive ending. There’s one specific part of this that had me CRYING I was laughing so hard. Willa never fails to bring the funny and I think this might be the funniest book in the series yet. And I was caught completely off guard by those plot twists in the last few chapters. I’m so curious to see how it all plays out in the last book!

And I’m LOVING the Emmy/Cyrus ship that’s happening. I would have never put them together, but they’re freaking cute and I want more!

FINAL WORD

I loved this! We get more humor, more Willa, and more of our favorite Abcurses. What’s not to love? Can’t wait for the final installment to be released in the fall!

*Finally caved and bought the ebooks of this series because I’m weak apparently*
Overall Rating: 4 Stars

By now I’ve gone through all seven stages of grief. Shock, denial, anger… And have finally settled on acceptance because my love for this series IS REAL Y’ALL. Despite it’s obvious flaws, I am completely obsessed with Willa and her five Abcurses. I almost feel like this is all some elaborate literary cult??? Pretty sure something was laced in the words to hypnotize me, but WHATEVER. I’M HERE AND I NEED THE NEXT BOOK. Is it July yet?

This is my life now

Unlike the last installment that fell a tad flat for me, this one completely hooked me!! I loved watching Willa trying to navigate her new powers and figure out the mystery of what was going on. When the Abcurses are forced back to Topia and leave Willa with Cyrus, I was like DUDES. SUCH A BAD MOVE. But it was fun seeing Willa get a little more independence and navigate things on her own. And when they finally meet up again, things get WAAAAY more steamy than they have in the previous books and I definitely didn’t hate it…

wink wink nudge nudge

I will say that actually reading this one wasn’t quite as fun as listening to the audiobook. The third audiobook isn’t included in Audible’s romance package, so I could either spend $8 on the audio or $3 on the ebook. Obviously I went the cheapo route, but it came at a price. I really missed Vanessa Moyen’s stellar narration and the life she brings to the series, but it was still a super fun book!!

FINAL WORD

LOVED IT. Just as fun and hilarious as the first book. NEED MORE. TELL ME IT’S JULY ALREADY!

Well, it’s been a few days since I finished this book and I’m still just as confused about it as I was after [b:Trickery|33898320|Trickery (Curse of the Gods, #1)|Jaymin Eve|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1484709065l/33898320._SY75_.jpg|54759820]. I thought maybe some distance would bring clarity, but NOPE. I just... don’t understand what’s happening to me???? Some kind of written wizardry is going on. That is the only explanation why I would love a reverse harem series this much.

Wizardry

This story is so random and chaotic, I should probably hate it. But DAMMIT. There’s something so endearing about the humor and characters the authors have established and I can’t get enough of it. The crazy way it's written and the randomness of the story are actually pretty clever given the subject matter. Willa and her infamous inner monologues always manage to make me laugh. Plus, all the guys are just adorable and I love their banter.

SWOON

In the last novel I was constantly mixing up the guys and getting them all confused. Willa would mention someone by name and I would have no idea who she was talking about. But now I'm starting to know each one and their individual personality, which has been really cool to see evolve. And I forgot to mention this before, but Vanessa Moyen totally deserves a shout out. She's a GREAT narrator and has brought so much life to these characters. I'm pretty convinced that she's half the reason why I find this series so hilarious.

I will say that this second installment fell a little flat after the last one. The beginning of the story dragged on and it took a little time before I really got into it. Plus, this just wasn't quite AS funny as Trickery. I mean, I can only laugh at Willa falling on her face so many times before the novelty wears off.

FINAL WORD
Another hilariously fun masterpiece! If you loved the first one, you'll love this one too.

I just… I don’t even… *incoherent sobbing babble* IT WAS SO GOOD!!! I’ve been procrastinating writing this review FOR DAYS because how do you even write a review for a book like this? It was everything I hoped it would be and more, I’m so happy with how this series was wrapped up! I only just started reading this series earlier this year and I’m still so sad it’s over.

MY EMOTIONS

And don’t worry, I shall keep my spoilers to myself, so please feel free to read on without worry.

Go on...

First of all, the length of this book was shockingly a non-issue. When I read [b:A Court of Wings and Ruin|23766634|A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3)|Sarah J. Maas|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1485528243s/23766634.jpg|25126752] earlier this year, it seemed to drag on a little too long and it took me a whole month to read it. And that was only 700 pages! When I heard that this was nearly a thousand, I was dreading it. I thought FOR SURE I’d be reading this thing for two months, but it only took me two weeks!! The pacing was absolutely perfect and kept me reading consistently the whole time without any lulls or boredom.

This installment also spent a lot of time on the battles and battle strategy, which sounds like it should be terrible, but it wasn’t! I actually really loved that so much time was spent on this. The logistics of war always seem to be cut out of the books these days and I’m so glad it was included here. Seeing the characters talk so much about about battle strategy added a weight and tension to the whole thing that kept me reading. Plus, this has been building for SEVEN BOOKS, so the epicness of the battles really made it all feel worth it!!

And the characters!! OH GOD THE CHARACTERS! *Sobbing* I love them all so much! *More sobbing* I can’t say a whole lot without giving spoilers away, but everyone got the page time they deserved. EVERYONE. All of the characters arcs are so great and every loose end is tied amazingly. Sarah Maas is a damn magician because I went into this hating Lorcan and came out a complete Lorcan fangirl. And if you told be before reading this that Dorian and Elide would be the real MVPs of this book, I wouldn’t have believed you. BUT HERE WE ARE???? So you all have that to look forward to. And the ships!! OMG THE SHIPS!!! So many to love and they all get highlighted in some epic emotional scenes that GAVE ME LIFE.

FINAL WORD

I feel like this review is trash because there’s no possible way to write anything does this novel justice. But this book was epic and emotional and wonderful and perfect. I loved every second. An amazing end to an amazing series.

Chaol guys. Chaol. *Sighs loudly* I feel like the Throne of Glass fandom can be broken up into the pro-Chaols and the Chaol haters. Unfortunately I fall into the latter. Needless to say, this put a bit of a damper on my reading experience and I was DREADING this book. I have to admit though, this was a lot better than I was expecting!!

First of all, the wold building in this was spectacular and I really loved getting to know this new kingdom!! For some reason it reminded me a lot of the Summer Court in A Court of Thorns and Roses, which I ain't mad about. There was such a rich history to it, especially with the Torre healers, and it was so interesting to read about. Antica folds in really well with the rest of this universe and made it all that much more layered and rich.

And the characters!! There are so many awesome new characters that really made this book amazing. The royal siblings were amazing and Kashin was a sweetie. I'm not really a huge fan of Hasar, but I loved that she was gay and unashamedly herself. Yrene was feisty and sweet and despite my gripes with Chaol, I really enjoyed reading their love story for the most part (more on that later). All of the healers were great. And of course, Sataq and his Rukhin clan members!! BORTEEEEEEE!!!! SARTAAAAAAAQ!!!!!!! I was so so so happy that my girl Nesryn gets her own awesome love story with Sartaq and they were SO FLIPPING CUTE. She deserved so much better than the bullshit Chaol was feeding her and it was amazing to see it play out.

Get it gurl.

Plus, there were some developments in the last half of this book that shocked me! I admit that I went into this already writing it off, but Sarah J. Maas showed me. I was not expecting that plot twist and I'm so curious to see how this effects the next book!!

All right, brace yourselves. The Chaol ranting is about to start.

Brace yourselves.

In the beginning I felt bad for Chaol because of his injury and what he was struggling with (which SJM did an excellent job writing about, by the way). I was even excited when him and Yrene started getting closer because I really like her and they were cute together. But every damn time I'd let my Chaol guard down he would do something to ruin it. Like blatantly flirt with Yrene while Nesryn was RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF THEM. Or say repeatedly that Aelin left him, when HE'S the one that corned her into leaving! And that kiss with Yrene?!?! What was that??? He says these awful, horrible things and that somehow leads to makeout session????? Screw you BUDDY.

Chaol has a big realization at the end and does some self-reflecting, THANK GOD, but I was so frustrated by the time the book got there I couldn't even appreciate it. I wish that realization had happened sooner or that the book was shorter because that would have really helped. Instead, my feelings about Chaol are kind of where I started. Literally, my only hope for the next book is that he doesn't piss me off more.

FINAL WORD

Would I have read this book if I didn't have to??? No probably not. But Sarah J. Maas does an excellent job of making it a worthwhile read and I actually really enjoyed it. Sartaq and Nesryn make this.

I finally made it fam!! I’m finally all caught up with this series! I MADE IT!!

VICTORY

It’s important to note that this review is coming from someone who read this IMMEDIATELY after [b:A Court of Wings and Ruin|23766634|A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3)|Sarah J. Maas|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1485528243s/23766634.jpg|25126752] because I think that made a big difference. I literally put down ACOWAR and picked up this one right after, so they almost felt like this same book.

I’ve heard a lot of people say the plot of A Court of Frost and Starlight is missing, which is absolutely true because it felt like the falling action to book three. After the final battle took up the last half of ACOWAR, the ending came so abruptly! We get like, one scene of the Archeron sisters burying their father and one of Feysand sitting on the roof of the townhouse. And then it ends! What?? All that build up with barely ANYTHING after. To me, this felt like the missing piece. As if Sarah J. Maas and chopped off the end of the ACOWAR to make this.

My expectations were pretty low going in because I heard it was nothing but fluff and it was pretty on par with what I expected. After the heaviness of book three, it was so nice to see these characters somewhat happy for once.I loved seeing them joking and celebrating together and that ending with Feysand was ADORABLE. It would have been nice to hear from the other characters instead of focusing so much on Rhysand and Feyre, but I still loved it. And Nesta. Oh my god. I tried so hard not to be mad at her because she’s been through a trauma, but DANG did she make it hard. My poor baby Cassian. And my boy Lucien got gypped. AGAIN.

Internal screaming

But this book was so much fun and I actually laughed out loud a couple times reading it. I might have to read this again in December because it’s the perfect winter book!! Reading this in June was such a mood killer. If you’re a fan of the series though, you’ll love this too and I think it was the perfect bridge to transition us all into the next half of the series!

I DID IT PEOPLE. 700 FREAKING PAGES AND A MONTH OF READING, BUT I DID IT.

Okay, let's get something out of the way—[b:A Court of Mist and Fury|17927395|A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2)|Sarah J. Maas|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1485259138s/17927395.jpg|25126749] was better. There was just something so perfect about that second installment this one didn't have. I don't know if it was the added length, or maybe because it lacked that amazing romantic tension, but this one just fell a little flat after the mind blowing adoration I had for ACOMAF. Plus, I really missed the character growth we saw in Feyre during the last novel. She goes from a scared, traumatized woman to one of incredible strength and courage during book two, but that's already established in this one. Feyre's character kind of stays the same during A Court of Wings and Ruin (at least in comparison to the last novel), which made this third book a tad more dull.

Despite all of this, I couldn't bring myself to give this anything less than 4.5 stars because I LOVE THIS SERIES SO DANG MUCH. *Sobs*

I’m a mess.

This time around, I really just adored returning to this universe and visiting these characters again. That kind of IS what’s good about this novel. The strong mating bond and romance between Rhysand and Feyre is a wonderful thing to see and watching them face their adversities together was so wonderful! That meeting between the High Lords where Feyre declares herself High Lady??? AMAZING. It was also super great seeing Mor open up to Feyre about her sexuality and I’m hoping that’s explored more in the future books. Plus, VARIAN AND AMREN WERE THE CUTEST!! And the tension between Cassian and Nesta?? OH. MY. GOD. I am so thirsty for that ship. They would just stand in the same room and I’d freak out.

NPH says stay hydrated.

There’s just so much book though!! In the beginning, seeing Feyre in the Spring Court trying to spy out information felt like such a big deal, but by the end it seemed so far away and inconsequential. And there was just so much battle stuff?? Maybe this was just me being impatient, but during the last 100-ish pages I really just wanted them to get on with it already. I was also very bitter about the lack of Lucien. He completely gets SHAFTED in this novel. Towards the beginning he goes away to get Queen Vassa and then just DISAPPEARS FOR THE REST OF THE BOOK. And when he shows up at the end, Lucien has a super cool story about his journey THAT WE DON’T GET TO HEAR. Not cool. My boy Lucien deserves better and I’m REALLY hoping he gets more love (literally AND metaphorically) in the coming books.

FINAL WORD

I know I sound salty (and I am a little), but I really did love this book! It had my favorite characters and ships in it, so you really can’t go wrong!

The Laughing Listener

April 2018
Format: Paperback
Overall Rating: ALL THE FREAKING STARS IN THE NIGHT COURT. I’M MAKING IT RAIN STARS.

I’M MAKING IT RAIN

I just… I don’t… How… WHAT DID I JUST READ?!?!? I CAN’T STOP TYPING IN ALL-CAPS BECAUSE I HAVE ZERO CHILL. MY BRAIN IS GONE. IS THIS REAL LIFE??? Since I’m apparently unable to communicate with words, I shall now express myself with gif interpretive dance.

First, Feyre was struggling depression and PTSD and I was all…
The lone tear

Then Rhys comes and stops the wedding (THANK GOD) and I was all…
Excellent...

And then Feyre has to go back to Spring Court and Tamlin BETRAYS US ALL and I was like…
AHHHHHHHHH

How dare you

I’m a mess

THANKFULLY Mor and Rhys come to save the day and I was all…
YAS

And then we see the real Rhys and his awesome friends and the beautiful Night Court and Feyre slowly starts healing and it was ALL SO FREAKING MAGICAL AND AMAZING and I was just…
SO AMAZING

Then Rhys gets attacked and Feyre finally learns about their mating bond I was all…
Ohhhh god...

BUT THEN THEY WORK IT OUT AND IT WAS SO CUTE AND ADORABLE AND HEART MELTING AND SPECTACULAR AND AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
IT'S HAPPENING

Awwww!

Yayyyy!!

And then those freaking queens and King Hybern and Tamlin happen and I was all…
Whaaaat?

But those last two chapters about Rhys and Feyre had me like…
YES

I loved everything. EVERYTHING. I loved that Feyre struggled with the events that happened in the last book because it felt so real and genuine. A lot of other books just move on to the next thing without consequence and that’s not how life works. Seeing Feyre in the grips of PTSD and depression, but then having the courage to stand up strong was SO INSPIRING. Ugh, that scene with the Weaver??? OMG. THE BEST. And watching Rhys with her was amazing to watch too and it was so fun seeing him slowly open up. The slow burn of their relationship in the this book GIVES ME LIFE.

Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE all the bad ass ladies!! Feyre, Mor, and Amren are SO AWESOME. Seeing them strong and fighting with their cool powers was THE BEST. I cannot WAIT to see Nesta join the mix because it’s gonna be fierce.

FINAL WORD
THIS. BOOK. WAS. AMAZING. Better than the first and I didn’t even think that was possible. I LOVE IT. I NEED MORE MORE MORE MORE.
