MAN have I been in a book rut lately. I don’t know why, but I recently I haven’t been able to bring myself to read anything but mindless trash romance. And when I was preparing for a road trip a few days ago, this presented a problem because I had no idea what to listen to in the car. In the end, I stumbled across this and decided to give it a go since I’ve been super curious about it for a while.

I have no idea why, but I thought this book was more of a romance for some reason?? And because of that I went into this with super low expectations, which actually did me a favor because it was waaaaay better than I thought it would be! This book is actually more plain urban fantasy than anything else and it was actually super refreshing to read something more plot driven. It’s a lot like Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series (a personal guilty pleasure minus the last couple books, which I pretend don’t exist), but with more werewolves. There are the bare bones beginnings of a love triangle, but it hardly comes into play at all and I’m completely here for the slow burn.

Sign me up.

I also really loved all the characters! Mercy was actually pretty awesome and I like the bad ass mechanic vibes from her. I’m also already completely #TeamAdam and I’m excited to see more of the werewolf pack dynamics in the coming books. The vamps were cool to see too! I just had a lot of fun learning all about these characters and this universe. This being the first novel, there were definitely long stretches of text that felt information-dump-esque, but I never really minded because it was interesting to learn about.

Admittedly I do kinda get a major creeper vibe from Samuel, but I think that may just be me?? I don’t know. I understand why Mercy is drawn to him being her first love an all, but she was flipping 16 when they first fell for each other. And he’s like 200-ish years old?!?! I know he comes from a different time period and blah blah blah, but that’s creepy AS F*CK. I don’t trust that guy AT ALL.

No thank you

FINAL WORD

This was a super fun and easy werewolf urban fantasy book if you’re looking for something light.

DAMON’S MOUNTAINS SERIES REVIEW

I wasn’t planning on reviewing these books at all, but given the fact that I’ve been completely OBSESSED with them for the past month, it feels wrong not to write somthing. So in the end I decided to write a general series-wide review that I’ll put up on each book—that’s right, all 48—because that’s how much fun I’ve had reading these.

Let’s do this.

OKAY listen. These books are straight up trash. They are. Romance drama trash to the max. But there’s no denying how freaking entertaining these things are. They’re hilariously funny, extremely cute, filled with action (some more than others), and packed with grade-A soap opera drama. Some of the novels are better than others, but if you need to go brainless for a while and just read something fun, these are the books you need.

All the characters are out-of-this world awesome, but the real thing that sets this series apart is the world building. Joyce has created such an elaborately rich universe with all these characters and I am 100% here for it. I love love love how everything overlaps and that we get to see all of our favorite characters even long after their books are done.

To help keep everyone straight, I even created a family tree spreadsheet like a NERD (Willa would be so proud) which you can view here. Just beware of spoilers.

Nerd alert!

FINAL WORD

These books are insane trash and I’ve loved every second. If you’re needing some laughs and romance, look no farther my friends. It’s worth the Amazon Kindle Unlimited free trial just to get your hands on these.
