A captivating read, heavy with emotion. Powerful scene-setting by the author, which really drew me into the story of Alice Hart & the presence of the women all throughout her life.
I also love, love, loved the way the flowers were weaved into the chapters & the stunning illustrations. Such a beautiful book to have on my shelf!

This was an incredibly powerful ode to the racism most of us aren’t even aware exists around the planet today.
So well written, so well researched. An impressive story by Picoult.

I really struggled to persevere with this book. The content was well written & the story itself was interesting enough, but it just took a painfully long time to get to the point. I kept pushing through because I expected that when I got to the important bit I’d be a bit more... blown away... sadly, I was underwhelmed.
I have mixed emotions about this book. On one level I really enjoyed the premise of the book, it drew me in. But I feel like I was waiting for something the entire time I was reading... like it lacked some element that would have made it great. I did like the ending.
I loved this book.
I loved the way it ended. I loved the way the relationships developed. I love the way the story unfolded.
What a lovely way to spend a Sunday.

At times this was a really intense story to read. In saying that, I did enjoy it.
An incredibly intense story of not just Lale’s & Gita’s love, but the atrocities that the people of this prison suffered. It’s a story that will not easily leave you. Thoughtfully constructed & written in way that makes it hard to put down.
