I’ve been holding off this book for a very long time because there was so much hype around it and I was deep into a lot of other fantasy series, but I’m glad that I was finally able to pick it up. I dual read this as a hard physical copy and an audiobook. The audiobook definitely brought the story to life. I loved how the author tied in so many different themes that were both important and interesting to learn more about. The tie in of King Arthur mythology, colonization, slavery, and the unfairness and politics of academics was admirable and easy to understand and empathize with which a lot of people are not able to do in a book let alone a series. I’m excited to start the second one and see where Bree’s journey leads her to. Shout out to everyone who recommended this book.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. Read like a horror movie and was genuinely terrifying. Highly recommend for those looking for a gory horror story that doesn’t care about your feelings.

I really enjoyed this although I kinda figured the twist and kinda wanted more at the end. All in all a great read if you want to get out of a slump.

Red Rising

DID NOT FINISH

Went to look up info about the author and turns out he can write books about apartheid and unfair political systems but can’t actually see it and call it out in the present day so it’s a DNF for me. I’m not interested in investing in a story that is disingenuous from the jump no matter how popular it is. 😬

Another book from Neal that I blasted through in 24 hours! Excited to continue the series. The plot of this truly feels original and the focus on “alternative” abortion options after birth and family building in this world makes you think about your own positions on this issue in real life.

Between the series and the book, I feel my overall experience with this story has provoked a lot of thought and emotion from me. I recommend everyone read this. This is the first book I’ve highlighted from beginning to end which is an accomplishment for me. Don’t skip the introduction or the Historical Notes at the end! Don’t let the bastards get you down!

Reminded me of an A24 movie plot. It was entertaining but could have been a little better. The face eating was top tier though.
