I found the ending itself a bit of a letdown, but the journey there was wonderful. Strong voice and great characterization with captivating world building. The way what happened rolled out was incredible, and the mystery there is worth working towards.

Read through this in one sitting and couldn't put it down. It's very quick, but the world building is fascinating and I love all the setup we get. The characters are engaging, and the unique perspective was super interesting. The reveal at the end was very well built up to. Considering it's by Leckie, I'm not surprised the perspective was engaging and used well in the narrative, as this seems to be an incredible mainstay of her books that has made them consistently stand out. Seeing this in a fresh fantasy setting was super fun.

An amazing world populated with fully realized characters, that read like a breeze. There's a sense of tension throughout and you really cheer for both of the pov characters. I loved the ending,
I was very worried it would be sad and end with them apart, but the choice to sail off together was perfect. Certainly kept me on my toes til the last minute.

If I had one critism, it would be that I wish more time was spent on character interactions rather than plot, especially between the two mains. That would be a different book though, and I did enjoy the pace.

A lovely book that touches on prejudice, love, and growing into oneself, with strong themes of family, caring, and hope. Writen in an extremely engaging way that makes you fall in love with all the characters.

Interesting book written for individuals with some background in academic reading, restoration, or ecology. The specific examples were well chosen and highlighted points throughout the structure. Very hopeful and a good introduction to rewilding.
medium-paced

Robust and well thought out survey of human history, though slightly skewed towards a western lens in the earlier parts. The views on differences in culture and things like capitalism as being analogous to a religion or ideology of the past were insightful. Overall extremely well written and engaging throughout.
