Now I understand why Alexis Hall is all the rage right now. It's well deserved. The audiobook was fantastic as it has attention to detail and immerses you in the show. This book had me laughing out loud and applauding the characters. There's talk of consent, biphobia, and sexism in media & society. Harry is one of my favorite characters. His anxiety rep was done really well. He's a loveable yet complex character which I adore. Now, I'm going to go and watch British Bake Off!

CWs: Sexual content (on page but not graphic), classism, emotionally distant / emotionally unsupportive parents, discussion of a teenage pregnancy (which happened in the past), brief mention of Rosaline considering an abortion (she kept the baby), casual biphobia, casual homophobia, unwanted sexual advances / threat of sexual assault, gaslighting, an attempt at blackmail (doesn’t go anywhere), mild violence (one character throws a punch), very graphic swearing and insults from one particular character that continues all through the book

Not a big fan of the illustrations, but I liked the message. It shows kids that all families are different. It's a good intro to teaching about LGBTQ+ families.

I liked this and will read more of Kann's work, but it felt like the plot wasn't concise. The author introduces the cooking competition, but we don't really see it until the end of the book. I would've liked it to have been the whole story. Instead, we learn about the town of Misty Haven when she is crowned Summer Queen against her own will and we see her working at her grandmother's diner, Goldeen's.

I did like the conversations about fatphobia and biases. Winnie was a great character. I love reading books with complex characters who are straightforward and that's exactly who she is! I also liked seeing her relationship with Kara as they are both in a Queer Platonic Relationship. However, I do think their argument could've been dealt with better. The book shows all types of love; platonic, romantic, and sibling love.

I read this via audiobook and can't recommend the audiobook enough. It's a full cast and the narration was great. If you like books set in small towns, I recommend this one!

informative lighthearted

Quickly read this at the library because I had a 15 min wait for my ride. I definitely will re-read it to have a clearer review because the other reviews I've read are very valid criticism of the book. However, I do believe this is a good beginner's guide to teaching kids about transgender people and in this case, a trans girl.

This briefly goes over Jazz's childhood to seeing a therapist and eventually, coming out and socially transitioning. Though, it does show a stereotypical experience because not every trans person will know from childhood (or have the words), and not every trans kid will play with toys society has gendered (i.e. girls play with dresses, boys play with trucks). But, this is just one person's experience and that is valid

I would've liked to have seen other trans people in this book to show different trans kids' experiences. I would recommend it but also say to seek out other trans children's books to read about the different experiences.

Liked the sex scenes, full queer cast, poly rep, and content warnings are listed before the book started. Though, I just thought this was okay!

Adorable! If you liked Mooncakes, you'll really enjoy this one. It is sapphic and has a non-binary ghost.

This was fantastic. I read via audiobook and the audio was really great. I loved the narrator because they really captured Ellie/Elatsoe's voice. If you like occults and paranormal books or a GHOST DOG then you'll really enjoy this story. It's awesome.

Read for the Queer Lit Readathon Round 9!
