Welp, it took forever, but I finally finished The Great Gatsby. Many other books got in the way, but I finally had time to sit down and finish it, and now I regret letting those other books get in the way.
First, I should get it out of the way that I like this book. It's always a lot of fun to read, though hard to get through because of the language at times. One of the reasons I was so quick to put it down when books by my favorite authors came out was because of that reason right there. But that is only because of the time period it was written. It is a bit odd though. There were times when I loved the writing style and found it fun and playful, and others when I found it drawn out and boring. Sadly the boring part won at. Hence me taking so long to finish it.
Now, I've never been a fan of those reality TV shows. Nor have I enjoyed listening to gossip about celebrities, but I feel like that's what this book is all about. Not feel. That is what this book is about, and it's the only way I could ever find myself interested in a topic I usually despise. I don't care about other people's lives, but here I am reading a book about a guy finding out about another guy's life.
Reading over other reviews, many people mentioned not being able to connect with any of the characters. While I see how that works, I found myself connected to Nick. He is just this nobody pulled into this big world. I don't feel like he and I are anything alike, but he's someone I can see myself befriending. I just like him as a character. Even liking the others as well. Jordan becoming a close second for favorite character in this book.
I do really enjoy this book, and I will of course read it again. Next time, no breaks though. Just going to sit through and read the whole thing.

While reading [b:Perfume The Story of a Murderer|343|Perfume The Story of a Murderer|Patrick Süskind|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328815062s/343.jpg|2977727], I found myself fairly excited. The writing was fantastic, and the plot was fairly interesting. It had this great mix of dark and whimsy that made it difficult to put down. I only found myself wanting to read more and more, and I really thought that this book was going to get a 5 out of 5 for me. I was having such a good time reading that I thought there was no way this book was going to let me down.
It did.
By the middle of the book, I found the story dragging a bit, but I still had hope. I still knew this book wouldn't let me down because I was enjoying the writing style so much. But it happened. The book disappointed me.
The things that disappointed me the most were the killings. Suddenly, all these people were dead, it was like they weren't even important. I realize that they weren't important, not compared to Laura. So I looked over that. But when it came to her death, it was just glazed over, as if it were no big either. I wanted so much more about his killing spree and got nothing. I felt like the middle with him in the cave could've gone, but instead the killings were cut out. This only made it feel like Patrick Süskind is great at setting up a story, but fails when it comes to finishing the story.
It's hard for me to say that I'll tell my friends to read it. I was telling everyone to read it when I was starting it, but then when I reached the end, I started to take it back. I just feel that the end did not match how the book started, and I felt like I was cheated out of an amazing ending.
The book is still good, but I'm just really disappointed in the ending.
