The first book of the series and I did find it interesting but not amazing. The characters were very unique, which is what kept me going; however, I did feel like the pacing of the novel was a little slow, which isn't a bad thing, but since I listened to it, I found my mind wandering, and when I zoned back in, I found I missed nothing. Perhaps reading it in print would've been different, but I just don't feel like it would've been.
I will say, I am interested in finishing the series. Once I complete it, if I do, I will write more of how I felt about it, but it is pretty good, but I can't see me recommending it to someone. If someone is already reading it, I'll let them know they'll enjoy it, just not love it.
The one thing I will say is that I feel like there is a mixture of styles here. It felt like a modern novel trying to be something JRRT or GRRM wrote. The voice as a whole felt off, but not terrible. It just felt like a YA novel trying to be something it wasn't.

I honestly loved this book. I felt like it was just so charming. It was so easy to slip into this world that Ashley Poston created. Usually, when starting a new book, it does take me a moment to get into the world they are creating. It might take a chapter or two, and I'll be honest, usually, with Sci-Fi, it takes me a little longer. However, with this book, I was in it. From chapter one, I was drawn in and enjoying the journey Ashley was taking us on.
I find her writing style so charming and so approachable. It is just fun to read her books, or in my case, listen to it. It is really like listening to a friend tell you a story. It's relaxing, interesting, and hard to put down. I just wanted to know what happened next, and then next, and then next. It had been a while since I listened to a book that was so difficult to stop. I've been listening to podcasts, and I had been so enthralled with them that I found myself distracted by them, but this book got me back into listening to books again!
The characters were so likable and interesting. I needed to know about their struggles and how they overcame them. Each new problem came up, and I needed to know how they got through it. And the pacing was just perfect. I didn't find myself bored and wishing the story would hurry up. I felt like everything there was so important to the story as a whole, and I was glued the whole time... even annoyed when people interrupted me listening to talk to me.
I loved this retelling, and now I'm hooked on everything Ashley Poston.

Wow. Hi. Have I talked about how much I enjoy Ashley Poston's writing style? Should I talk about it more? I'll continue gushing over it.
Ashley Poston's writing style is so easy to get lost in. There is such a charm to it. You aren't reading a book, you are just listening to a friend, which I mentioned in another review. Her writing style isn't trying to be something else; it is just her. She is just a friend telling you a story. I wish I could expand upon this, but I can't think of another way to say it. I have read and listened to so many other boos that try to be something else. They want to tell a story like GRRM or be the new JKR. Instead of being themselves. Ashley Poston is 100% herself, and she is perfect the way she is.
I love this modern retelling! I'm suddenly addicted to them. And as someone who has been going to conventions since 2002, I was so excited for a nerdy retelling. I honestly thought I was going to get annoyed with all the references, but instead, I found myself excited by them. She didn't drown you in them; she just had them sprinkled here and there, enough to excite the reader. It was just the right amount, and I loved it! The one unrealistic thing I found was when a guy was removed from the con for sexual harassment. I've been to many cons and seen many guys harass my friends, and none of them were removed. I wasn't upset by it, I just wish it happened that easily.
This is just a cute story and I can't recommend it enough. The series is just perfect and charming. When my friends want a cute, fun story to read, I am recommending this in a heartbeat.

This is a reread for me. I started catching up on the podcast and decided to reread the book, or in this case, listen to the first time. I was excited to listen to it, seeing how I'm so used to listening to the podcast. It actually felt more natural to listen to the audiobook than to read the book itself.
Like before, I enjoyed it. It was the podcast in a book and seeing how I enjoy the podcast, I would, of course, enjoy the book. It was weird and creepy and wonderful. It wasn't amazing, but it was a good read and I enjoyed it.
They said you can read the book without listening to the podcast, but I don't feel like that is true. It is so tied into the podcast that there are things that would be very confusing. At least, that is how I feel. I really think you need some idea of the podcast before diving into this book. You don't have to be caught up on all the episodes, but just an idea of the weirdness that is Nightvale.
This book is charming and entertaining, but it isn't something I will recommend to people who don't know the podcast, and sadly, that is a lot of people. And while I do bring it up now and then, most people are listening to so many podcasts, they aren't willing to add another. So, if you know the podcast, you'll like the book!

This was a book my friend recommended to me, and it did enjoy it like she thought I would. I will be honest, this wasn't my favorite thriller, but it was pretty good. I wish I could go into why I'm not in love with it, because I can't think of a single reason not to be, but the most I can say is that it wasn't as thrilling as I thought it would be. I guess I was hoping for more, but I can't exactly say what that something is.
This book, sadly, won't be a go-to recommendation for me. It is a fun read, but it won't be the top of my list for my friends who enjoy thrillers. It is nice, with interesting characters, but not amazing. It is a page-turner though! I just wish I could identify what is missing for me. Until then, I give it 3.5 stars.

This book was ... underwhelming. While it did fill some gaps in the Star Wars universe, I found myself feeling like I just read nothing. This book could've been bullet points, and I felt like it would have given me the same information in a shorter amount of time. Every time I felt like they reached some kind of conflict, they resolved it on the next page or in the same chapter. It didn't feel like this book had an overarching plot. It was just, as I mentioned before, a bullet point list of events that happened. There was even a lack of emotion to it all.
The book didn't feel that deep, and I certainly wasn't moved or impressed by it, which disappoints me so much. I was so looking forward to enjoying this book and being blown away by it, but I was left feeling like I didn't even read anything. It felt like a bit of a waste of time, which pains me to say.
Because of this book, I will not continue reading the series, nor will I recommend this book to anyone. In fact, I will tell them they don't need to read it at all and save their money for other things.
