Pissed me off initially but grew on me by about the halfway point. Still not the book it thinks it is but had some interesting ideas. Fragmentary storytelling was sometimes cool, sometimes obnoxious. Very mixed bag.

Cried. The most heralded fan fiction writer in the world couldn’t write pining this heartbreaking.
I find it hard to believe half the things he says but the emotions are so resonant that I can't help but believe the love he had. And Christ there was so much. Hence the crying.
Actually a fascinating font of information for someone who's currently running through the M&L movies. Informs the sort of subliminal weirdness of Three Ring Circus, confirms the superiority of Artists and Models, etc.
Losing my fucking mind. Anyways.

Pretty racist in bizarre ways. Lacks the all-important homoeroticism of the 2-part episode it's based on. Can't believe I read all 8 of these.

This will be unpopular of me, but I did not like this at all. I guess I don't see what other people see in this book. I found the writing uncompelling and very handhold-y, and I thought the plot was incredibly contrived. The ideas Rooney has about the complexity of human relationships seemed to me incredibly straightforward and simplistic. I guess this just really isn't my thing. Sorry gang.

Learned a lot and got to listen to Alan Alda's voice for 6 hours. A win-win.

Read for my World Lit class. I love Otsuka's sparse but powerful writing style, although I wish this book would have been longer. It was hard to feel as though we'd spent much time with the characters. The final 5 pages or so are really quite masterful.

I fell in love with Hanif Abdurraqib's writing with They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us, specifically his essay "Fall Out Boy Forever". I'm so glad I picked this up. I've never encountered a writer more poetic, more thoughtful, more scathing, more tender. Holy shit man. I need to read everything he's ever written.
