"'No,' I said, 'not what it was built for. Perhaps that's one of the pleasures of building, like having a son, wondering how he'll grow up. I don't know; I never built anything, and I forfeited the right to watch my son grow up. I'm homeless, childless, middle-aged, loveless, Hooper." - Evelyn Waugh, Brideshead Revisited, page 350
Me while reading an Evelyn Waugh book: man, these two guys are assholes. I wonder if they've ever explored each others' bodies.
Unbearable English-ness and spiritual desolation. What more can you want?

" The Tower
The tower's built of spit and spite,
Without a sound, without a sight.
The biter bit, the bitter bite.
(It's better to be out at night.)"
- Neil Gaiman, Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders, page 215
Always a joy to read from the master himself. "Forbidden Brides..." was a real standout.

The sweetest, most feel-good book I've read in a long time. Feels like watching a guilty pleasure movie, complete with just the right combination of cheesiness and genuine emotion. If you like The House in the Cerulean Sea, definitely pick this up. Old gay men make the world go around.

What a fascinating and complex little book. Emira is a fantastic character, and while the other characters around her are fairly infuriating, they produce an interesting dynamic from which Emira can emerge at the end. All in all, I really liked it, and the audiobook provided a great pace for the whole thing. The last couple of lines are absolutely amazing.
