When I got the shipping notification for this book, I wanted to run home right that minute and start reading it. Although this book is very Vimes-and-family-centric, and doesn't involve much of the rest of the Watch, there are a fun and varied cast of characters and an interesting plot that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Young Sam's developing personality is awesome, and Vimes himself never misses a trick. It was great.
A very quick and interesting read, full of cool stories and facts that I kept wanting to share with my partner. Although rather heterocentric, this seems to be primarily because of study limitations, rather than unintentional exclusion. There's a lot of science in here, but written in plain and easy-to-understand language, and I had a hard time putting it down.
Feels a bit too long, honestly -- all the biographies were beginning to drag by the end. But piecemeal this book is fascinating -- and it really made me miss some books that never got written!
This book was really *weird*, but surprisingly entertaining and a quick read.
Shocking, creepy, entertaining. I'll be thinking about this book for a long time.
