Synopsis: In Rosario, Argentina, Camila Hassan lives a double life.

At home, she is a careful daughter, living within her mother’s narrow expectations, in her rising-soccer-star brother’s shadow, and under the abusive rule of her short-tempered father.

On the field, she is La Furia, a powerhouse of skill and talent. When her team qualifies for the South American tournament, Camila gets the chance to see just how far those talents can take her. In her wildest dreams, she’d get an athletic scholarship to a North American university.

But the path ahead isn’t easy. Her parents don’t know about her passion. They wouldn’t allow a girl to play fútbol—and she needs their permission to go any farther. And the boy she once loved is back in town. Since he left, Diego has become an international star, playing in Italy for the renowned team Juventus. Camila doesn’t have time to be distracted by her feelings for him. Things aren’t the same as when he left: she has her own passions and ambitions now, and La Furia cannot be denied. As her life becomes more complicated, Camila is forced to face her secrets and make her way in a world with no place for the dreams and ambition of a girl like her.

Review: I really loved this book! I loved the writing and thought the pacing was wonderfully managed and done. The character development was masterful and I was so invested in Camila’s journey! I loved how the author conquered the tough topics of domestic violence and masculinity. Definitely a book I’ll reread and pass onto other women.

The only compliant I really had is that I wished there was a bit more world building, but the book was wonderful overall!

Verdict: A highly recommended read!

Review: I thought this was a super sweet and cute book! I absolutely loved the first two and I continue to love this series. The book has great character development and pacing. The book is also well suited for younger children.

However, I did think that the world building could have been better, but otherwise a well done book.

Verdict: A great series!

Synopsis: Far, far away, in the realm of Enchantia, creatures of legend still exist, magic is the norm and fairy tales are real. Except, fairy tales aren’t based on myths and legends of the past—they are prophecies of the future.

Raised in the mortal realm, Everly Morrow has no idea she’s a real-life fairy-tale princess—until she manifests an ability to commune with mirrors.

Look. See… What will one peek hurt?

Soon, a horrifying truth is revealed. She is fated to be Snow White’s greatest enemy, the Evil Queen.

With powers beyond her imagination or control, Everly returns to the land of her birth. There, she meets Roth Charmaine, the supposed Prince Charming. Their attraction is undeniable, but their relationship is doomed. As the prophecy unfolds, Everly faces one betrayal after another, and giving in to her dark side proves more tempting every day. Can she resist, or will she become the queen—and villain—she was born to be?

The battle between good and evil is on.

Review: For the most part this was a good book. The story and plot really drove the book and I liked both the most. The book was also fairly well paced.

However, the beginning was so confusing and slow that it made reading and getting into the book very hard. The characters and world building were also not well developed and nothing really set these characters apart from each other.

Verdict: It was a good book!

Review: I really liked this book for the most part! The plot was intriguing and kept me interested in the book all the way through the novel. The world building was also very well done and the book is evenly paced.

However, the writing could have been a bit better. There was not a lot of showing in the writing, just a lot of telling. There also wasn't a lot of character development for me, just a lot of exposition.

Verdict: It's good still!

Synopsis: Faryn Liu thought she was the Heaven Breaker, a warrior destined to wield the all-powerful spear Fenghuang, command dragons, and defeat demons. But a conniving goddess was manipulating her all along...and her beloved younger brother, Alex, has betrayed her and taken over as the Heaven Breaker instead. Can she complete her mission and save the brother she loves, no matter the cost?

Review: Overall, this was an awesome book. The book improved so much on the first one and gave us so much character development and world building. The book also attacks the old Chosen One trope. The book did well to keep me intrigued throughout it.

The only issue I really had with this is that I thought the pacing was slower in this novel and a little bit too slow in some parts.

Verdict: A great series!

Book: Crown of Coral and Pearl

Author: Mara Rutherford

Book Series: Crown of Coral and Pearl Book 1

Rating: 3/5

Recommended For...: romance, cliché ya lovers, fantasy, arranged marriage plot

Publication Date: August 27, 2019

Genre: YA Fantasy

Recommended Age: 14+ (romance, slight violence and gore)

Publisher: Inkyard Press

Pages: 432

Synopsis: Nor once dreamed of seeing the wondrous wealth and beauty of Ilara, the kingdom that’s ruled her village for as long as anyone can remember. But when a childhood accident left her with a permanent scar, it became clear that her identical twin sister, Zadie, would likely be chosen to marry the Crown Prince—while Nor remained behind, unable to ever set foot on land.

Then Zadie is gravely injured, and Nor is sent to Ilara in her place. To Nor’s dismay, her future husband, Prince Ceren, is as forbidding and cold as his home—a castle carved into a mountain and devoid of sunlight. And as she grows closer to Ceren’s brother, the charming Prince Talin, Nor uncovers startling truths about a failing royal bloodline, a murdered queen… and a plot to destroy the home she was once so eager to leave.

In order to save her people, Nor must learn to negotiate the treacherous protocols of a court where lies reign and obsession rules. But discovering her own formidable strength may be the one move that costs her everything: the crown, Varenia and Zadie.

Review: For the most part I really liked this book. If you’re looking for arranged marriage fantasy books, then this is your book. The characters were well developed and the world building, though it took awhile to get to, was good as well.

However, I did feel like the book was very slow and the plot was very weak. The plot is very classic YA with love triangles and a girl who doesn’t think she’s beautiful who has to chose between them while the world goes to crap.

Verdict: It’s very cliché but it’s good.

Review: For the most part I thought this was a good book. The book did well to mix action and politics and the characters are well developed. The book also did well with the world building and the plot was intriguing as well.

The only issue I had with the book is that the pacing is a bit wonky. It’s fast then slow, and then back to fast throughout the book.

Before everyone in Occhia dies of thirst, Emanuela and Ale must travel through the mysterious, blood-red veil that surrounds their city to uncover the source of the watercrea’s power and save their people—no matter what it takes.

Review: For the most part I liked this book. It was a fun, short read that kept me on my toes. The book is great for people who want something fast to get through in one sitting and the plot kept me intrigued from start to finish.

However, there were a ton of problems with this book. The book is way too fast paced and by 15% in I had already reached what should have been the climax of the book. The book is also confusing and spends very little time on developing the story. Nothing is explained outright and the reader is left to guess. The book also had very little world building and the character development was non-existent.

Verdict: It was good and I liked it, but there’s some problems.
