Synopsis: Before the birth of time, a monk uncovers the Devil’s Tongue and dares to speak it. The repercussions will be felt for generations…
Sixteen-year-old photography enthusiast Zoey has been fascinated by the haunted, burnt-out ruins of Medwyn Mill House for as long as she can remember–so she and her best friend, Poulton, run away from home to explore them. But are they really alone in the house? And who will know if something goes wrong?
In 1851, seventeen-year-old Roan arrives at the Mill House as a ward–one of three, all with something to hide from their new guardian. When Roan learns that she is connected to an ancient secret, she must escape the house before she is trapped forever.
1583. Hermione, a new young bride, accompanies her husband to the wilds of North Wales where he plans to build the largest water mill and mansion in the area. But rumors of unholy rituals lead to a tragic occurrence and she will need all her strength to defeat it.
Three women, centuries apart, drawn together by one Unholy Pact. A pact made by a man who, more than a thousand years later, may still be watching…
Review: Holy cow I loved this book! This was the perfect ya horror book for my current mood and I think this would be an excellent Halloween novel! The characters are well developed, the world building is amazing, and the writing is truly magnificent.
My only issues are that the book gets a bit slow in the middle and the beginning is kinda hard to get into. You’re thrown into this world and you gotta reorient yourself when the pov switches for the first time. After that, it flows very well.
Verdict: A spooky story for you horror fans!

Synopsis: ower. Courage. Invincibility. The marks of a true hero.
Meg Sawyer has none of these things.
Meg has never stopped a moving bus with her bare hands, been bitten by a radioactive insect, or done anything moderately resembling saving the world. She doesn't have to. She's a background citizen, a nobody, one of the swarms of faceless civilians of Lunar City--where genetically enhanced superhumans straight out of the comics have thwarted evil for years.
For as long as the Supers have existed, Meg has had one goal: to not become a casualty in their near-daily battles for justice. And for the last seventeen years, she's managed to do just that. Sure, her minimum-wage job at the local coffee shop isn’t great, she can’t even leave her apartment without loading herself up with protective gear, and her car was just hijacked to throw at a supervillain (again), but she’s not dead yet.
But when Meg accidentally finds one of the city's perfect, invincible protectors murdered under extremely suspicious circumstances, her whole “innocent bystander” strategy falls apart. After being coerced by his determined girlfriend into a mission to help prevent the deaths of the remaining Supers, Meg finds herself forced into the foreground of a story she never wanted to be part of—one that challenges everything she thought she knew about both her city and herself.
Review: This book is so cute and amazing! The book is sarcastic and witty, funny and touching, and the characters are perfection! They have an amazing voice and it feels like they’re real! The book is also well written and the plot is pretty well done!
My only issue is that the book had a bit of issue with pacing. It felt slow in areas and fast in others. I also don’t like how the characters aren’t multi-layered but I consider this book to be for younger audiences so I’m giving it leeway.
Verdict: If you like superheroes you’ll love this one!

Synopsis: "Princess Amelia is dead... and one of you will replace her."
Seventeen-year-old Victoria Sandalwood has served the Duke and Duchess all her life. Over the years, she’s learned to make do with what she has and endure her surrogate father’s awful punishments. She dreams of escape, but never expected it to come in the form of a message from the Queen of Westeria.
Victoria learns that she’s the Queen’s daughter, the younger sister to Princess Amelia, and it’s time to come home and claim her birthright. When she arrives, she discovers she’s not the only one who received the royal message.
Victoria must compete with six other girls to earn the affection of both the Queen and a princely suitor… and to replace the secretly deceased Princess Amelia. If she fails to win the crown, Victoria may just have to fight for her life…
Royal Replicas is the first book in a YA dystopian series. If you enjoy courtly intrigue, heart-pounding adventure, and sweet romance, then you’ll love this captivating story. Perfect for fans of Kiera Cass, Bella Forrest, and Veronica Roth.
Review: I was recommended this book from Mary Ellen @aparanormalromance and I have no regrets. This book was everything I wanted. I got part The Selection, part dystopian, and part gore and violence! I loved it and I loved the concept of this book and series. The characters are very well developed, the writing is amazing, and that cover is to die for! I seriously read this book in 3 hours, continuously.
My only issue with the book is that cliffhanger ending, which had me like “nooooo” and how the book put me in a book hangover! I also felt the pacing was a bit wonky, slow in parts and fast in others, but it wasn’t that noticeable when I read it in 3 hours LOL. I also felt that the romance was a bit rushed, but I understand that for this character, being a teen and being enslaved, the romance would probably be a bit “oh I’m so in love with you” when you’ve known that person for like a month.
Verdict: If you liked The Selection but wanted something a bit more bloodthirsty, definitely check out this series!

SOME MONSTERS ARE BORN. I WAS MADE.
Review: I’m a total Illuminae Files fan, so I definitely picked this pre-order incentive up when I heard about it for when Aurora Rising was coming out. Guys, I did NOT regret this. I LOVED every second of this book. This book had mystery, AIDAN was back and we got a backstory for him, and we got a new team to root for! I was so sucked into this book and I COULDN”T PUT IT DOWN! I definitely would be up for more books in this series.
My only ONLY issue is the length. It was 82 pages as opposed to the usual 600-800 pages in the books. The pacing was a bit faster than I’m used to because of it, but, I mean, it’s promotional material and not a real book so…. Kinda can’t be 600 pages LOL.

Favorite Quote: “Am I Not Merciful?”
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than a speck at the edge of the universe. Now with enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to evacuate with a hostile warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A plague has broken out and is mutating with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a web of data to find the truth, it’s clear the only person who can help her is the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, maps, files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.– Amazon.com
Does anyone remember those books that were wrote in all IM format? Maybe not, but I used to read them and I never really enjoyed that format. I was a bit skeptical I would like the format over a decade later, but I had heard such great things about this book that I decided to give it a go. And I want to thank all of bookstagram for making me want to read this book. I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK. The characters, which was super difficult to achieve, were very well developed. While I didn’t have the usual “I am of medium height and have average brown hair” (thank God) I did get to learn about their personalities. And while a huge cast of characters usually makes for underdeveloped characters, this was not the case with this book. The plot is also very well developed. Complex, yes. Confusing in the beginning, yes. Well explained in the end, yes. Yes. YES. I know everything about this universe so far and I’ve not felt the sense that my brain is going to explode with too much information. The book, for the format is in, is so awesomely wrote and is so easy to digest! It’s nearly 600 pages, but it only feels like a 200 page book! I don’t know how the authors wrote this book but they did amazing and I would hug them so hard if they were within hugging range!
The only thing that annoyed me was that the ending was not very explained. I was left wondering what the hell was going on. I know I need to read the second book in order to have the full story, but I WANT TO KNOW NOW! NOW! RIGHT RIGHT NOW!

Diversity: YES!!! It’s ancient Arabia inspired and written by an amazing Mulim author (she also runs @icey_designs so please go check out her awesome-sauce store!)
Publication Date: May 14, 2019

Synopsis: People lived because she killed.
People died because he lived.
Zafira is the Hunter, disguising herself as a man when she braves the cursed forest of the Arz to feed her people. Nasir is the Prince of Death, assassinating those foolish enough to defy his autocratic father, the king. If Zafira was exposed as a girl, all of her achievements would be rejected; if Nasir displayed his compassion, his father would punish him in the most brutal of ways.
Both are legends in the kingdom of Arawiya—but neither wants to be.
War is brewing, and the Arz sweeps closer with each passing day, engulfing the land in shadow. When Zafira embarks on a quest to uncover a lost artifact that can restore magic to her suffering world and stop the Arz, Nasir is sent by the king on a similar mission: retrieve the artifact and kill the Hunter. But an ancient evil stirs as their journey unfolds—and the prize they seek may pose a threat greater than either can imagine.
Set in a richly detailed world inspired by ancient Arabia, We Hunt the Flame is a gripping debut of discovery, conquering fear, and taking identity into your own hands.
Review: Holy cow this book was magnificent! I loved the world building and I loved the characters. They were so complex and rich. The detail that went into every aspect of this book was definitely noticed and it made this book all the more special. The magic system is really interesting too and the writing was magnificent.
The only issue I had with the book is that the pacing was a bit slow. I think that’s because, as the first book in a series, you need to set the world and details so it can be a bit daunting to some people, but I still very much enjoyed this tale.
Verdict: The forest is alive and it’s deadly.

Tera was trained for one purpose: to pilot one of the lethal God Machines, massive robots for a never-ending war.
With secret orders to report on Tera, Jaewon becomes Tera’s partner, earning her reluctant respect. But as respect turns to love, Jaewon begins to question his loyalty to an oppressive regime that creates weapons out of humans. As the project prepares to go public amidst rumors of a rebellion, Jaewon must decide where he stands—as a soldier of the Neo State, or a rebel of the people.
Pacific Rim meets Korean action dramas in this mind-blowing, New Visions Award-winning science fiction debut.
Review: I really liked the concept of this book and I thought this was a really interesting plot. I really wanted to like this book because the synopsis hit all the right chords with me, but in the end I didn’t connect with it.
I felt that the characters were flat and didn’t jump off the page to me. The world building was a bit lacking and the pacing was really slow. I just didn’t connect with this book that much unfortunately.
Verdict: This seems like an amazing read! Might try it again in the future.

Synopsis: Tobias Kaya doesn't care about The Savior. He doesn't care that She's the Ruler of the realm or that She purified the land, and he certainly doesn't care that She's of age to be married. But when competing for Her hand proves to be his last chance to save his family, he’s forced to make The Savior his priority.
Now Tobias is thrown into the Sovereign’s Tournament with nineteen other men, and each of them is fighting—and killing—for the chance to rule at The Savior's side. Instantly his world is plagued with violence, treachery, and manipulation, revealing the hidden ugliness of his proud realm. And when his circumstances seem especially dire, he stumbles into an unexpected romance, one that opens him up to unimaginable dangers and darkness.
Trigger warning: this novel contains graphic violence, adult language, and sexual situations
Review: Oh. My. God. I LOVED this book! I kinda described as a Male version of The Selection but with violence and gore. I loved Tobias and I loved Leila. Both were very well developed and I loved how they were written. Tobias was written to not be like how a stereotypical guy is portrayed. He let his feelings show and I think that’s very important for young boys in this day and age. The world building was also magnificent and the plot was crazy good and that writing! THE WRITING WAS GREAT!
My only issue is that I predicted the twist at the end about 17% of the way in, but I’m really good at that. My group I read this with didn’t seem to catch onto the twist, so it was a very well done twist, just one that I predicted lol. But knowing the twist makes the book more interesting at least!
Verdict: Highly recommend this book.

Synopsis: Banished by Asa at the end of Grace and Fury, Nomi and Malachi find themselves powerless and headed towards their all-but-certain deaths. Now that Asa sits on the throne, he will stop at nothing to make sure Malachi never sets foot in the palace again. Their only hope is to find Nomi's sister, Serina, on the prison island of Mount Ruin. But when Nomi and Malachi arrive, it is not the island of conquered, broken women that they expected. It is an island in the grip of revolution, and Serina--polite, submissive Serina--is its leader.
Betrayal, grief, and violence have changed both sisters, and the women of Mount Ruin have their sights set on revenge beyond the confines of their island prison. They plan to sweep across the entire kingdom, issuing in a new age of freedom for all. But first they'll have to get rid of Asa, and only Nomi knows how.
Separated once again, this time by choice, Nomi and Serina must forge their own paths as they aim to tear down the world they know, and build something better in its place.
Review: I really enjoyed this sequel to Grace and Fury. I feel like I got a lot of answers and I feel like the book did well to develop some of the characters more. The books are also extremely well written and they're very enjoyable and empowering.
I did have an issue with some things though. I felt like the world building lacked, it could have been more detailed in spots, and I feel like the pacing was really slow. The book is way slower paced than the first one and I feel like it could have been a bit more even matched.
Verdict: A great and empowering series

Synopsis: Magic is fading from the Wild Wood. To renew it, goblins must perform an ancient ritual involving the rarest of their kind—a newborn changeling. But when the fateful night arrives to trade a human baby for a goblin one, something goes terribly wrong. After laying the changeling in a human infant’s crib, the goblin Kull is briefly distracted from his task. By the time he turns back, the changeling has already perfectly mimicked the human child. Too perfectly: Kull cannot tell them apart. Not knowing which to bring back, he leaves both babies behind.
Tinn and Cole are raised as human twins, neither knowing what secrets may be buried deep inside one of them. Then when they are twelve years old, a mysterious message arrives, calling the brothers to be heroes and protectors of magic. The boys must leave behind their sleepy town of Endsborough and risk their lives in the Wild Wood, crossing the perilous Oddmire swamp and journeying through the Deep Dark to reach the goblin horde and discover who they truly are.
Review: I thought this was an absolutely cute and amazing book. It’s wonderfully targeted towards kids! It’s got a dark side but I don’t think it would be too scary for the young ones. The characters were strong, I loved the commentary on non traditional families and how differences don’t make you less loved. I also thought the pacing was amazing as well.
However, I did think that the book was a tad predictable, but I’m almost 30 years old and I have a great track record of predicting endings.
Verdict: If you have a young one or like young books definitely get this one!

Review: I thought the writing was amazing in this book, you can tell the author is well mastered in this book. The characters are well developed, the story is amazingly vibrant, and the whole book just feels you with this eerie feeling. It’s a good book for thrill seekers.
However, I did think that the book was very hard to get into and the pacing is really slow. The book can be confusing at times too and it demands absolute attention.
Verdict: If you can devote yourself to this book it’s amazing!
