Eudora Fellowes inherits a home called High Hearth after the death of hee great aunt. With her dogs she leaves her childhood home and moves there, and after strange occurences that she tries to rationalize, she comes to the conclusion that her new home is haunted by both spirits and traumatic memories. What drew me to this novella besides the fact that it's gothic horror, is that Eudora is aromantic and asexual. She is judged for never marrying and procreating, but she accepts that some people will never like her so she ignores them. In my opinion, the real horror of this novella (or any horror story that features queer characters) is the pressure to conform to normative standards. Despite how sad this novella is, it does give the reader a bit of hope that healing is possible.

This book is beautiful and perfect and I will never get tired of reading it.
