This novella is a heartfelt and haunting tale of a young woman who's grieving her dead friend. It explores how religion has been used as a way to justify acts of cruelty throughout centuries. I've adored everything I've read that's published by Ghost Orchid Press, and this is no exception.

This is a beautifully written novella about a vampire named Alice Ann and her sister Hannah Grace. They have been vampires since the 19th century. Throughout the novella, Alice Ann remembers her parents and the farm she lived at before her parents were murdered and she and her sister were turned, as well as grieves for past and present losses. Some of the major themes in this book are grief, loss, and family (both blood and chosen). This has now become one of my favorite vampire books. And even though I very much enjoy vampire books that have sex and romance, I appreciate that this novella contains no sex and very little romance. I will definitely reread this soon and seek out more of Scott J. Moses's work.

Holy shit this was so much fun. The Werner family were supposed to celebrate Christmas in a home that has a gruesome past. The parents ignore all the huge red flags and try to have a nice time, which unfortunately for them their Christmas becomes a bloody nightmare. This is the first title I've read by Brian McAuley and I'll definitely read anything he writes from now on. Anyone who's a fan of slasher films should check this out.

Each story in this collection uses real life situations and makes them even scarier. The most obvious examples for me are "I Ink, Therefore I Am" and "The Last Stop Sandwich Shop" which are about toxic work environments. All of the stories are cleverly written and I will definitely seek out more stuff by Nikki R. Leigh.

This is such a beautiful and heartbreaking sapphic horror novella. It tells the story of Verna and Audrey, who live on an island and fall in love after the apocalypse. Unfortunately, most of the people on the island are not accepting of queer people and force them apart. Councilman Hillard decides to take Audrey as his wife and Verna is chosen to be a sacrifice to Elogona, a monster that lives in the sea. The events of this novella show how easy it can be for people who are scared to give up their freedom in exchange for security. I will someday reread this when I can handle the tragic ending.

Every story in this anthology had a huge impact on me. They are all thoughtfully written and the topics that are examined are handled with care. I'm glad I finally got around to reading it.

The title pretty much sums up this entire 10 page story. Lor Gislason is great at gross body horror stuff. I'll always be interested in reading anything they write. This is available for free at the DarkLit Press official website if anyone wants to check it out.
