CW: gore, gore with a side of gore, vomit, feces, sexual assault, child abuse, body horror

Extreme horror (also known as splatterpunk) is not for everyone, which is totally understandable. Anyway, this is one of the most foul, horrific and gut-churning books I have ever read. Tabby's six year old daughter, Riley, has been missing for eight months when she finds a paper bag on her doorstep. Inside the bag is a cell phone and a picture of her daughter with a decapitated head on her lap. A man calls her on the phone and orders her to do some awful tasks if she wants her daughter to live. There were moments when I didn't think I could finish this book but I needed to find out what happens at the end. One of the twists at the end was pretty predictable, but no less heartbreaking. Having read some of Judith Sonnet's previous works, I knew what to expect in regards to violence and gore, and yet some scenes made my skin crawl. Also, even though the villains are very two-dimensional and at times almost cartoonish in their behavior, this is still a five-star read for me.

A married couple, at first just referred to Mr. Jones and Mrs Jones, appear to be average, unexceptional people, yet both of them are serial killers. Mr Jones murders women in gruesome ways, while Mrs Jones has sex with men and then poisons them. Neither of them is aware that their spouse is a serial killer, which is pretty hilarious in my opinion.

It was fun reading from both of their perspectives, especially when Mr Jones thinks about how he can't be exposed as a murderer or else his wife will lose her job, lol Also I really like that none of the pets are murdered in this novella. This is my third time reading something by Ash Ericmore and as always I am not disappointed by his work. :)

Lyle and Jude are happily married when a virus breaks out that causes the infected to behave aggresively and violently, so they're basically zombies. Lyle gets bitten, but manages to survive thanks to a vaccine. However, the vaccine only slowed down the virus for Lyle, so Jude has to grieve while having to watch his husband slowly deteriorate. The themes of grief and love are presented in such a beautiful and heartfelt manner. I am very glad I checked this book out despite how much I hate stuff that involves zombies.
