I think this book is an incredibly crafted book, but I would say that it's a very particular kind of weird that's kind of difficult to enjoy if you're not ready for a bit of weird nonsense that's a fair amount of confusing. Vandermeer wrote a breathtaking novel here, but it's absolutely NOT commercial sci-fi / dystopian, and it's a bit if a fever dream  

The writing was really good but I found the story far too bland, and incredibly slow paced. 

Alright, I didn't finish, and I'm sad about it. Mostly, I hit a reading slump, and by the time I picked it back up to try and finish it, I forgot what was happening. It was super dialogue-heavy, too, which isn't really something I generally enjoy, and made it harder to figure out what was happening once I picked up where I left off.
