This is excellent. This is unapologetically very Black and very asexual and I loved it. What an eventful long weekend trip, so much emotional whiplash for them.
My only qualm is that Fox didn’t feel fully fleshed out as a character and was kind of a generic grumpy to Joy’s sunshine, a perfect hero with not a clear grasp of his motives or any flaws.

It almost felt like the first half of the book was written by a different person than the second half. The first half was alright, it was very idealistic “anything is possible” vibe which odd for a political romance. Lots of “we asked a state senator who is usually v opposed to climate for their vote on this climate bill and they said yes, woohoo!” I was not into it but because it was for my book club I kept going. And I’m glad I did! The second half was much better. Much more interesting and complex and nuanced. It felt much more real and believable.
Overall it was fairly funny and a fine read, usually I am not into second chance, cheating, or politically based romances so this did have to overcome a lot for me to be fine about it!
A quote I’ll contemplate: “I’m just saying that when you give someone your heart, you have to accept they might break it. And if they do, it doesn’t mean you weren’t right to give it in the first place. And that you shouldn’t give it to someone else again.”

Quick and light, I read it in 2 days. Will def be reading the next in the series. A bit too short so some things didn’t get fleshed out, and the plot relied on mistimed interruptions a few too many time for my taste. Overall, I enjoyed and recommend.

This is fine. Not captivating enough to keep me going + any time the new male lead is present, every interaction is unrealistic. Not BAD.

I read this in 2 days. It’s the first book I’ve read that mentions the pandemic in more than a passing way. It was interesting to be thrown back into the beginning, when we didn't open mail for 3 days and wiped down all our groceries. It’s not my fav novel of Picoult’s, I did miss her classic multiple POVs but I understand why they weren’t present, what with the twist. And what a twist.
