Preface to the review: DBT gets a 5 star rating from me, no questions asked. I admire Marsha's work so much and am so grateful that she developed such a wonderful set of skills to help people like us.

Marsha says about 3/4 through the book that her writing isn't good and, unfortunately, I'm inclined to agree. The contents of this book is fantastic, but the writing is... Subpar. There's a lot of weird repetition to the point where I felt I had deja vu. This particular memoire could have benefitted from strong editing and from being at least 30% shorter.

Overall, I enjoyed it but don't think I'll be rereading it (I'll reread DBT manuals instead). I recommend it to anyone who has a niche interest in the topic but not really beyond that.

This was a fun read. It took me a while to get into it, but the prose and characterization were masterful and that kept me going.

I just loved this book - I read it by a bonfire on a trip to a rented cabin and it was a perfect summer read. The prose was elegant and engrossing, and I appreciated the ambiguity about whether things were fate or coincidence. I love character studies, and this book had four - all of which explored themes of finding purpose/meaning in life and what that means for different people.
