First of all, I'd like to state that I don't like ghost stories. I don't like psychics either. I'm a huge fan of urban fantasy but if I read the summary and it's about some sort of seeing ghosts and shizzle I'll normally throw the book out the window rather than read it.

But I enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the pace and it had a lot to say in that less-than-200 pages. There where certain annoyances, like they where clueless on how to deal with this ghost situation but didn't try looking for information. They didn't go to the internet or local library or look up on the yellowpages (do they still exsist these days?) for any selfproclaimed witches or gypsies or something. Instead they sat around and GUESSED what might work. I'd kinda expect atleast an ATTEMPT at google and a frustrated growl at how many idiotic things are out there and how none of them is working.

But other then that the book felt homely, it was.. realistic? Down to earth?
So many books have these heroic characters full of snark and bravery where they'll defeat all evil in the world and nobody is going to stop them. I found it refreshing that these characters where humane, and their conversations where humane, and when they hit the wall of options they considered, possibly, to take the cowardly way out.

I liked that. And despite of being a hater of all kinds of ghosts, I'd like to read the next book to see what this guy gets himself into next.

I really enjoyed this book, despite other reviews saying it flatlined in the middle.
I wish it was dragged out a little more, it went from curiosities and incidents to BOOM THE BIG BAD IS HERE!
I don't know, personally I think it would have been more exciting to slowly drag the MC back into the magical world while she was trying to keep her magic hidden, and then have the betrayal of certain characters actually mean sometimes. At this point it didn't have much of an impact.

Despite that, I love the universe this is set in. I love how unique her magic is, and I love guessing what the magic actually is. And I love the fact that it wasn't a book that rushed into an romantic aspect, there COULD be something develop there, or it could just fade off into friendship. That seems realistic to me, and I love it when books make it realistic. Love at first sight is silly, and lust at first sight rarely lasts in real life. It's the people that peak your interest and continue to do so that'll have you fall in love.

So yes, the pace of the action went from low key to high with no middle part, making the end be not as impactful.
But I'm really looking forward to starting the second book tomorrow.
