This was a fantastic series and a fantastic ending. I always knew that the ending would be far from happy, but this ending was devastating. It is a fantastic twist to the traditional vampire story and is probably the most realistic world succumbing to plague story I've read since World War Z. The characters are well portrayed and their decisions are not only logical, but painfully human. The series portrays mankind at its highest and its lowest and reveals that our biggest enemy is really ourselves, not the monsters that high in the dark and our biggest saviors are the few of us who chose to stand even when they have something to lose, not some holy savior. All in all a terrify, painfully sad series well worth the read.
