Taylor is one of my all time favorite authors but this book fell flat for me. There really is no plot; it’s more slice of life. And I can get down with that usually, but there are no revelations in this book that follows a selfish widow throwing a temper tantrum over the man she knew and loved for ~6 months. Give me a break. I really think it comes down to the fact that she has no grace. Which not every woman needs grace, but that’s probably how I like my protagonists, especially when they are giving me nothing else to work with. She was an only-child and has no relationship with her family so maybe that’s why she’s so self-centered and unrelatable. I had to drag myself through to the end and would not suggest it to any of my friends.

I really enjoyed this book. I now have a completely new perspective and respect I have for Laura Bush (who is the inspiration for this novel).
