WOW. This book was amazing. I read 20,000 Leagues beforehand to familiarize myself with the source material and found it frightfully dull and all the things I was interested in (Nemo's backstory, character development) muted in favor of things I cared not at all about (lists of fish...so many lists of fish). Everything I disliked about 20,000 Leagues was done exceptionally in Daughter of the Deep. The character depths, the action, the fleshing out of backstories, etc. The cast of characters were amazingly diverse and really well written. The story was almost impossible to put down. And I absolutely LOVED how it ended.

This book always makes me think. It's definitely worth intermittent rereading to get back on track with the 10 guideposts.

This was a fun read. The voice was great. The exploration of grief was well-done. The cast of characters was just FUN.

Dahl is truly a fantastic story teller. The fact that he can make a memoir feel as lively as his fantasy books is a testament to that. It's also cool seeing how the influences of his childhood so clearly show up in his later writing.

Really fun romp through space and time. And I love the messages about working through grief and how it is never too late to change as a person, that growth is always an option.
