Don't let the title fool you. Rotten is anything but Rotten. It had me drawn in right from the start, in fact I may have even done some ugly crying right from the get go.
Toni grew up on the outskirts of Vegas, the daughter of well a well known strip club owner. She was bullied at school because of it, and let a pretty miserable and lonely existence growing up. Except for David.
David was her best friend, and her unrequited love. One night he does something that hurts her so bad, it ruins their friendship, among other things.
A decade down the track, Toni is in a pretty miserable marriage to a man who I did not like at all!
When her father is taken seriously ill, she returns to Vegas for the first time since that night, and runs straight into David, the one that got away. Tired of living the lie that she has for so long, she decides to let the real Toni out to play - and I like her! This is a story of her redemption, mending bridges and above all, being the person she always wanted to be.
On the outside she is the perfect wife, good Christian girl. On the inside she is still the messed up girl she was in her teens, and still a little drawn to the darkness. She never really dealt with things that had happened, just always ran away.
Now running her father's business with David, the old attraction and feelings are still there - if they ever went away.
Leaving her old life, she soon realises how bad things really are with her husband Andrew, and how much she really has changed. As much as she thinks she cannot leave him, after he visits she realises he is not what he seems.
And don't even get me started on the so-called friend Erin!
I love how Toni begins to rebuild her relationship with her father Stephen. There is so much she does not know about him and so many mistruths she has been told her whole life about him that she needs to figure out.
The new relationships Toni builds while in Vegas are not what she would ever have expected, but more real than anything she has ever had. Her friendship with Jodie is unlike anything she has ever had with anyone, even David, and it is the kind of friendship that will last. Jodie is raw, real, she tells it like it is.
I loved everything about Rotten, and JL Brooks' writing had me hooked from the start to the end. And there are a couple of things that we can all take away from it.
Firstly, never give up hope. Whatever happens in life, the choices we make and their remifications, there is always hope.
And secondly - giving someone the chance to explain things can keep us from days, months or even years of hurt.

Ever had one of those days? A career ender? No light at the end of the work tunnel?
That's the kind of day Miranda has just had. In a crash on the stock exchange, she has lost $87 million of her clients money.
So what's a girl to do? Get coffee of course! Lots of it and strong. And her is where he day changes. In the coffee shop she has an altercation with the barista, which turns into an altercation with the guy behind her. The Drop. Dead. Gorgeous guy in line.
Not realising she might have looked a little like a freak, the handsome stranger offers the use of his private office to clean herself up.
Miranda has always been the prim and proper looking librarian type, boring suits and hair in a bun. But not today. What can it matter, things can't get worse, right?? And all that coffee - I am sure I would have been all over the place drinking what she did
Max has been in the background of his father's business since things went south while he was in his teens. Today is the day he takes control again. He has made some choices in the past that are still haunting him to this day, personally and professionally.
When an offer to use his office to clean herself up turns into something a lot more steamy, who is he to say no? He has always got what he wanted, and this is no different. But after the most earth-shattering sex of his life, things are about to change.
When Miranda realises that the sexy stranger is her new boss, she turns cold and professional with him. Or tries. I like that she is a Wall Street hard arse analyst, but when it comes to Max, she gets all flustered and acts like a teenager with a crush.
I love that we see the softer side of her, and she becomes more human. She is attracted to Max, she wants him but knows professionally she can't have him.
Max is all alpha male, but does not know what to do when Miranda fights their attraction.
Add to the mix a vindictive ex and her family (seriously f&*ked up family there!!), a Wall Street scandal, hostile takeovers and a sexy as all hell couple and what you get is a great read.
Market for Love had me hooked from the first chapter and I did not put it down until I had finished.

Beware - Wish Me Tomorrow revolves a lot around cancer and cancer patients, so it is an emotional read. But if you take the time to read it, you will come out smiling, even though you will run the whole gamut of emotions, from happy to sad ,to rage to despair.
Christie is a nurse and grief counsellor for cancer patients and survivors. She has also been touched by cancer, though she has never really dealt properly with her emotional struggles. But she is the eternal optimist and tries to instill the same in her patients.
Eli is a cancer survivor, single parent and ever the realist. Though he is in remission he knows that the cancer cloud will forever hang over him. He does not deal with the cancer issue with his kids very well at all, and he has closed his heart to love.
The stories of both Christie and Eli are so realistic. Everyone deals will cancer in a different way, and both of theirs feel believable. You can either have the hope it will never return, or have the dread it will and close yourself off to the world.
Eli's kids Becca and Tommy are heartbreakers. Becca doesn't understand why her dad won't talk to them about the cancer, and is pulling away. Tommy is younger and all he wants is his dad to be like he was before he was sick.
We have all been touched by cancer in some way, whether it personal, family, friends or colleagues, and we all have all dealt with it in our own way.
This book is an emotional rollercoaster.
I laughed, I cried, I wanted to slap people, I wanted to hug people. I wanted to get Eli, Christie, Becca and Tommy in one big group hug and squeeze the heck out of them.
Wish Me Tomorrow is a book about love and loss, sadness and happiness, guilt and acceptance, and more than anything it is about knowing that your feelings are never wrong, they are what they are. It was nice to read a romance for romance's sake for a chance, and it not full of steamy hot sex scenes (not that I am complaining about them either!!)
Karen Rock has written and emotionally charged book,, full of "normal" people in situations that any of us could find ourselves in at any time.
Give this a read, you will not be disappointed.

For the past 5 years, Katie, AKA Sapphire, has been the king of Sari's favourite concubine, to the exclusion of all his other concubines - and his Queen.
Jealous of the king's love for her, the Queen arranges for Sapphire's retirement, with benefits that no woman could deny. She has her own palace, will never want for anything - and 14 men for her every pleasure.
The Queen also organises another surprise.
While out on patrol with his troops, Wulfric, Prince of D'Ashier is taken hostage in an ambush. And through the Queen's devices, he ends up near death as one of Sapphire's men.
From the moment their eyes met, sparks flew. The sexual tension could be cut with a knife. And this is before either of them knew who the other person was.
They are quite the star-crossed lovers in this book, Katie/Sapphire being the mistress of Wulf's greatest enemy. And it does not help that she is the daughter of Sari's biggest hero and heralded General.
Yet she goes with her gut instincts (which never fail her) and protects him from those who would ransom him in the least, and at worst, kill him.
I love Katie/Sapphire. She is strong, wilful and will take no crap from anybody, no matter who they are. After years of being a "kept" woman , the last thing she wants to do is be the same with Wulf. Oh, and she is a kick-ass warrior who will beat the hell out of anyone who threatens her, and maybe even kill to protect those she loves.
Wulf is completely obsessed with Katie - seriously, she has every world leader falling at her feet. Must be some super-strong pheremones she is throwing out there!!
He goes against his family's and his country's wishes when he bring Katie back to D'Ashier. His father, the King, poisons those around him with how she is a spy, how she is no good for Wulf. Those closest around Wulf can see the difference in him and adore Katie.
I don't see that as much. As much as he says he has changed and loves her - which I don't doubt he does - it still feels a bit more like she's an obsession of his. But I am sure that will change as their stories progress.
In The Flesh has a kind of futuristic yet ancient feel about it - a bit like Star Trek meets the Arabian Knights (when you read it you will get what I mean)
The sex scenes are hot - there is seduction, sweet love making, and then rutting like animals in heat lol. And anyone who has read any of Sylvia's work knows what they are in for with with the sexy-sex!
Will Wulf and Katie get their HEA? Will their love cause an international incident and lead their families and countries to war?
For that you are going to have to read it!

Burn sarts off right where Spark ended, so make sure you read Spark first. And wow, what a way to continue Eric and Velaney's story.
Eric and Velaney have been through a lot to get where they are today - on a plane for Velaney to meet Eric's family. Velaney has never had the great family upbringing, so she is scared about this meeting.
Spark was a book full of relationship ups and downs, but Burn is an emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end.
Velaney has made some difficult decisions regarding her family in the past, but now they are coming back to haunt her. Her childhood and teen years were miserable and now she thought she was rid of them for good.
Ugh what a family she has. As bad as her brother Aidan is (and boy, is he bad), her parents are worse. I have never despised characters in a book as much as I do them. I just want to throw something sharp at their heads hard!
Velaney has grown so much since the start of Spark, however her family can bring her right back to her teen years.
I love how Eric tries to protect Velaney from her family - and herself. He loves her so much, warts and all, and it kills him to see her putting herself through what she does.
In Burn we get a lot more of Eric's POV. He is such a beauitful man, a beautiful human being. He is always there for Velaney, now matter how much she pushes him away - and she does do that a LOT (seriously girl if you don't want him, ther,e's a queue forming behind me for him!!!).
We also learn a lot more about Eric's past, and the things that brought him to this point in his life. We find out the tragedy that drives him.
As much as I despised Velaney's family, I LOOOOOVE Eric's. His crazy female cousins are like the sisters we all want, and his male cousins - well, that is something different all together.
Burn is full of twists and turns, some a lot more unexpected than others.
And then there is Velaney's best friend Carissa. She is a hard as she is sweet. She will defend you to the end of the world if you are being wronged, but will not hold back if you are being stupid or making the wrong decisions.
I am really looking forward to reading more of Carissa's story in book 3, Flame.
Brooke Cumberland hasn't failed me yet, and is again on a winner with Burn.

I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book. I am not a huge paranormal reader (I do read some but it is not my main genre), and a dragon shifter is not one I have read about before.
While Dead Sexy Dragon was good, it wasn't great. The premise of a war between dragons and knights was good, but something lacked.
Cora didn't really grab me - she was ok that Stig was a dragon and she slept with a dragon, but freaked out a bit too much that she may become one. Though I did like that she owned up to her stuff ups pretty quickly, and did not drag that out forever.
Stig sounds sexy though. It is more erotica than romance, and the sex is pretty hot.
Like I said, it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible, and I still can't quite put my finger on what was lacking.
A good start to a new series though.

Delilah (don't call her that or she might kick your arse - and give you a fantastic reason why not to call her that at the same time) "Lily" Flynn has lead an extremely sheltered life. In her early 20s, her and her sister Terah are practically under house arrest by their over protective father. Lily's life consists of going from home to work, work to home.
While Terah sneaks out for her fun, Lily isn't that way inclined, and loses herself in her romance and smut books.
Their parents have advised the girls that there is some trouble with the family business and that he needs to keep them close.
Not long after this conversation, both Terah and Lily are kidnapped - or are they?
Nox, Boo and Rock are Lily's kidnappers - who don't really act like kidnappers. There is a twist in this kindnapping tale. And when Lily finds out, she likes to make their lives a living hell
Now where do we start with Nox? Super hot, super sweet alpha male. And being locked up in a safe house with him, not surprising it doesn't take long for things to heat up
Lily just steals the show for me. Smart, sassy, witty, sometimes just outright hilarious - the scene where she gives the guys her shopping list is laugh out loud funny (and come on girls, we have all done it to our guys).
There are a couple of twists and turns in Willing Captive that will have you going WTF??
I laughed, I cried, I wanted to bitch slap and I wanted to hug it out
The secondary characters - particularly Boo and Rock as they are the ones we deal with most - are well written and round out Nox and Lily's story well. I would love to read more about them, along with more of Terah and Jon.
I have previously read Belle Aurora's Friend Zoned series, and really enjoy her writing. She writes with a wit and charm that many try for and don't quite get.
And yep, I wasn't wrong. I LOVED it. Thank you Belle for taking us on another fantastic adventure

Double Full starts with a bang – and what a bang it is!! This is my first full m/m book I have read and I am definitely going to be reading more.
Colt and Jace have been on the periphery of each others lives for years, both attracted to the other but neither of them did anything about it. Jace is the out and proud cheerleader, Colt is the deep-in-the-closet football star.
When Colt finally makes that move, it starts a romance that neither of them ever expected.
After a whirlwind holiday, things are looking great for them, until interference from Colt's father separates them, seemingly for good. Colt is a star quarterback, ready for the NFL draft. Football is still not OK with homosexuality, so to protect Colt's career (and his own financial gain) his father threatens to hurt Jace if Colt sees him again :(
A decade later, Colt is a football superstar, drowning his sorrows in booze drugs and casual sex. Jace has built up a successful cheerleader coaching gym. Yet neither has forgotten those 5 spectacular days they spent together.
They have both kept track of the other’s careers over the years.
A decade later, Colt is a football superstar, drowning his sorrows in booze and drugs. Jace has built up a successful cheerleader coaching gym. Yet neither has forgotten those 5 spectacular days they spent together.
They have both kept track of the other’s careers over the years, wondering "what if" and "if only".
Enter a Russian supermodel wannabe, latching herself to Colt to raise her profile. Ugh, what a bitch! Colt, for her I want to bitch slap you
Seriously, what the hell were you thinking????
And as for Colt's father -- what a douche, really! Riding the wave of his son's success for the past decade, bleeding him dry financially, ruining his only chance for true and lasting love. I really despised him!
When Colt and Jace's lives cross paths again, can the hurt of the past be forgotten so they can have their forever? Will the people who tried to keep them apart keep trying?
"I'm willing to spend the rest of my life showing you how much you mean to me. I’ll work every single day to be the man you deserve, but let me make love to you tonight. Let me know what it’s like to feel you again. Please."
Double full had my emotions all over the place. I was happy, I was sad, I was angry, I was heartbroken, I was happy, I was relieved, I was sad again. There were "woo hoo" moments, there were "WTF" moments. I cannot confirm nor deny that there was some ugly crying involved.
Kindle Alexander has written such a wonderful love story. I was completely drawn in from the first page, and could not put the book down until I was finished.
I love Colt! I love Jace! I need more!! This is the first book in a series, but there is no cliffhanger.

ARC received for honest review
We first met the Titus brothers, Travis and Jake, in The Bet. The Bet is about the love triangle between Jake, Travis and Jake's best friend Kacey.
Following on from The Bet, The Wager is Jake's story with Kacey's other best friend, Char.
Char had a crush on Jake when they were kids, but he hurt her then. Years down the track he hurts her again after one night and a horrible morning after.
Now she is paired up with Jake at Travis and Kacey's wedding - awkward.
Char tells herself that she can't let Jake sweet talk her again, her heart just couldn't take it. But the Jake of today seems different - but is he? Always the womaniser - rich, successful and sexy as sin, what woman wouldn't fall for his charms?
The "wager" in this book is who can be the better matchmaker for Jake. Travis and Kacey think their friend Jace is just the man to sweep Char off her feet. Grandma Nadine just know that Jake and Char belong together.
Gotta say, I love Grandma Nadine. I want to be just like her when I hit my 80s!!
Nadine is a spitfire of a woman, loves to meddle in everyone's business, still has her booty calls with the neighbour. Awesome! She is the heart of the story, and steals every scene she is in.
Nadine's antics to keep Travis and Kacey from the "marital bed" for the week before the wedding are hilarious.
Nadine's shenanigans to get Jake and Char together are brilliantly executed - all in the name of the wedding of course. And what she ends up doing - bravo Grandma Nadine, bravo!
The chemistry between Jake and Char is tangible. Explosive even. They go from bouts of lust and tenderness, to fights like you can only have with people you truly care about. Their's really is a love/hate relationship. Their shared history adds fuel to the fire for their arguments but also to the passion they feel for each other. This history also gives a lot of fodder for their witty banter. Who could not love them (even if occasionally I did want to castrate Jake!)
The mutiple POV's give a great insight to what the characters are thinking and feeling at the time.
Rachel van Dyken has written another of my favourites of the year. I loved The Bet, but I LOOOOOVE The Wager from the prologue to the epilogue. Cannot wait for more.
