It took me a little longer to get through this one, and kind of abruptly ended compared to Hopkins other novels, but still pretty decent. I loved Shane's perspective the most, but all of them were compelling.
Decided not to read this one either. Just making note
I actually didn't even start it, just DNF'ing it before I accidentally recheck it out on my mission to read every novel by Hopkins. I read the summary and decided it wouldn't be for me and it wouldn't be fair to hate-read and rate based on that.
Surprisingly, this is the first Hopkins book I had to DNF. Didn't have any of the same energy as any of her other verse novels. The idea seems tempting, seems like it could be pact with that raw emotion she usually taps into, but this one was just not doing it for me. Well, can't win em all!
The middle grade novels that Ellen Hopkins writes might be more tearjerking and impactful than the ones for the older audiences. I'm bawling again, goodness!
Can't write a proper review through my tears. This book is so good and so important.
I just don't have the energy or capacity to read this book, not right now at least.
Knew right away it wasn't something I could get into, unfortunately
