there is nothing to not like about this book. it's powerful. definitely a must read. lefteri did an amazing job of invoking emotion and putting things into perspective with this novel.

This Heart of Mine by C.C. Hunter was nothing more than a glorified Wattpad novel - and honestly, I've seen One Direction fanfictions written better. The writing style is boring and redundant (i.e. "Grabbing my pills, I drop into a chair beside them and take my pills." Come on. We couldn't have found a better way to phrase that?). I can get behind a cheesy, YA novel, but this was worse than that. Hunter couldn't seem to figure out how to implement romance and suspenseful mystery into the book properly - if the author had just stuck with teenage romance with medical woes, it probably would've been better than the whole murder part. The mystery aspect was only a mystery if you've never read a day in your life. The characters were so cliche, there was no depth or volume to it. The only reason I didn't absolutely hate it was because sometimes you need a simple, easy read to end/start the year. It was just disappointing because I do feel like the donor organ/recipient trope could otherwise be an AMAZING read...just not in this context.

While I found Yolk immensely invigorating, at certain points Choi's distinguished writing style made it hard to follow, and I felt like it dragged out a very long time, just to wrap up abruptly and almost too neatly at the end. Regardless, it was still a memorable read. Yolk was bold. It tackled the personal issues of such distasteful, unlikeable characters, to where you almost don't care if there is a resolution because you come to detest the attitude of the main characters so much. But the sheer honesty, how raw and hold-nothing-back, keeps you going. Overall, Yolk was an enjoyable, reflective read for me, but it did have a lot of droning details or almost unnecessary scenes and bits that made it harder to want to finish.
Cliche, a bad depiction of PTSD, terrible writing style

Not typically a book I believe I would enjoy, but Wood's captive and endearing writing style stole me away.
