"Do you know how many times I’ve wanted to do what you did? Just light a match. Poof. Goodbye, Mom. Goodbye, Darren. Goodbye, house.

I guess, in a way, that was what I did by leaving. I guess, in a way, that's what we've both done."

Take Me With You When You Go immediately immerses readers in a story of escape, resilience, and the complexities of familial bonds. David Levithan and Jennifer Niven craft a raw, poignant tale that explores the depths of abandonment and the search for self amidst the wreckage of a fractured family.

Bea’s departure isn’t just a desperate attempt to start over; it’s an unspoken plea for Ezra to find his own freedom in a life that has consistently failed them both. Her words, “Whatever you do, Ez, don’t ever be like me. Be you. You’re the best part of me,” echo with an aching love and the hope that Ezra can rise above their shared pain.

This novel doesn’t just tell a story; it mirrors the struggles of those who have ever felt abandoned or unworthy. Levithan and Niven have written characters so authentic and a narrative so poignant that it strikes close to home, forcing readers to confront their own emotions and experiences.

Ultimately, Take Me With You When You Go is a masterpiece about finding strength in connection and hope amidst despair. It’s a reminder that even in the face of profound pain, the possibility of healing and self-discovery remains. This unforgettable story deserves every one of its five stars—and more.

I wanted to read this and like it but I can't force myself to read a book I'm not vibing with. Although, I'm sure if I forced my way through it, it'd be stellar, so I still recommend others give it a try.

I am actually surprised I got that far...

Didn't realize how long this book / advanced the words in it actually were until rereading it for my son. I'm not sure how I read it in kindergarten

I miss my mother reading this to me, but loved reading it to my son and can't wait to hear her read it to her grand baby

Super endearing child's novel about respectful way to ask for something
