These books are fun and work overtime to tug the heartstrings. There’s that comforting sense that they lack any real danger to the characters you love. This one (which maybe is the last?) went above and beyond to give us apocalyptic problems. I’m not usually a fan of “save the world” scenarios. I prefer the smaller scale conflicts, where real danger feels eminent. I never quite believe authors when they enact a plan to end the world. For this series the second one, in Paris, is still my favorite!
Major Buffy vibes and a really cartoony/classic/Archie art style that I love. This was fun!
This had all the makings of some thing I would love, but it didn’t quite hit for me. A gender bent Arthur and Merlin story with a relatively retro color palette, fae, and Morgana - but I didn’t find myself caring much about the characters or feeling like they had developed much of a relationship.
I have a lot of fun things happening in October, but added to the top of that list? Volume five.
Read to kids! Their reviews:
Eleanor (age 8): I give 5 stars. I really like the love story between Willow and Sundew. Bumblebee was my favorite character.
Max (age 11): I gave 4.5 stars. My favorite character was Hazel. Sundew was also great. I liked the way “breath of evil” used Hawthorn it was smart.
